About the Role: The Patient Trayline Aide plays a crucial role in ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of meals and dietary items to patients within the UAB Medical West facility. This position is responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization in the trayline area, supporting the dietary team in preparing patient trays according to specific nutritional guidelines. The aide will collaborate closely with nursing and dietary staff to accommodate special dietary needs and ensure patient satisfaction. Attention to detail and adherence to safety and hygiene protocols are essential to prevent contamination and ensure patient health. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the overall patient care experience by facilitating efficient meal service and supporting the healthcare team. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to follow detailed instructions and dietary guidelines accurately. Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices. Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift trays or supplies up to 25 pounds. Effective communication skills to interact with healthcare and dietary staff. Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in a healthcare or food service environment. Familiarity with hospital dietary codes and patient care protocols. Certification in food handling or safety (e.g., ServSafe). Ability to use basic computer systems for documentation purposes. Demonstrated reliability and strong organizational skills. Responsibilities: Assemble and prepare patient meal trays according to prescribed dietary instructions and schedules. Ensure all trays are complete with the correct food items, utensils, and condiments before delivery. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the trayline area and equipment in compliance with health and safety standards. Coordinate with dietary and nursing staff to accommodate special dietary requests and restrictions. Assist in inventory management by monitoring stock levels of food items and supplies and reporting shortages. Deliver snacks to patient rooms promptly. Document trayline activities and report any issues or discrepancies to the supervisor. Skills: The Patient Trayline Aide utilizes attention to detail daily to ensure that each patient receives the correct meal according to their dietary needs, which requires careful reading and interpretation of dietary instructions. Communication skills are essential for coordinating with nursing and dietary teams to address special requests and resolve any issues promptly.
