An opportunity is available for a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) experienced in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing to provide exceptional care on a 28-bed stepdown unit focused on orthopedic and trauma patients. This contract role requires a minimum of two years of nursing experience and offers a dynamic environment caring for post-operative orthopedic patients, including backs, hips, knees, and surgical drain management. Experience with hemodynamic monitoring, dysrhythmia exams, and common orthopedic interventions is essential. Key Responsibilities: Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized nursing care plans using the nursing process. Administer medications safely in accordance with state laws and facility protocols. Manage patients with orthopedic surgical needs, including handling surgical drains (Hemovac, JP, True-close) and coordinating post-op mobility. Utilize and monitor Alaris pumps and Hercules beds, providing care for patients requiring heparin drips and occasional PCA morphine. Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families to ensure coordinated and compassionate care. Serve as a patient safety advocate, participate in quality improvement activities, and respond promptly to changes in patient conditions. Maintain proficiency in advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) and basic life support (BLS). Communicate clearly with diverse patient populations, integrating cultural sensitivity and patient-centered approaches. Qualifications / Desired Experience: Active RN license in a state covered by compact licensure. Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience; acute care hospital experience preferred. Current BLS and ACLS certification required. Dysrhythmia exam certification required (study guide provided). Knowledge of surgical drains and orthopedic post-op care preferred. Familiarity with EPIC EHR preferred. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Schedule: 12-hour evening shifts (PM), every other weekend (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH).
