The Manufacturing Manager is a leadership role responsible for instilling and maintaining high standards of accountability for safety, SOPs, cGMPs, lean initiatives, and housekeeping (including being "audit ready at all times"). The position, along with their team, owns the operations within their production lines and is critical to the success of SCN BestCo's "World Class" production output and high standard of quality. The Manufacturing Manager works closely and cross-functionally with Engineering, Maintenance, Continuous Improvement, Planning, Quality, Safety, and Logistics to effectively plan, direct, and coordinate all activities of production to ensure a high degree of safety, quality, production, and cost control. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead by example to promote compliance with all environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures; and identify and eliminate hazards. Champion initiatives that foster an environment where employees take personal responsibility for safety and production. Ensure the highest standards of safety are followed to protect all employees. Monitor all areas of responsibility to verify all SOPs and cGMPs are strictly followed to ensure product quality and consumer safety. Ensure customer orders and requirements are met with effective production schedules. Partner with supply chain to develop manufacturing schedules to meet planning commitments, and ensure resources are available and prepared to meet these commitments. Direct operations to understand, document, develop, and improve SOPs that support consistent manufacturing performance. Actively contribute to technology transfer, start-ups, design, and implementation of process changes. Assess and identify equipment, processes, technological upgrades, and employee development and training needs to increase efficiency. Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering to troubleshoot process problems and identify solutions that reduce downtime in a cost-effective manner and improve product flow. Work to ensure that department equipment and technology keep pace with ever-changing customer needs while providing a high return on investment. Develop and implement operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality. Utilize lean value stream mapping to identify needed kaizen activities, foster continuous improvement, and develop operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality. Evaluate, develop, and implement continuous improvements and best practices for assigned areas along with evaluating upstream and downstream areas to identify efficiency and effectiveness improvement opportunities. Employ a data driven waste reduction strategy to eliminate losses in assigned departments. Ensure that deviations and Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPAs) are addressed right the first time and monitor health of manufacturing quality systems. Sponsor all investigations within assigned areas and work closely with Quality department to determine root causes. Participate in a variety of strategy-related, cross-functional teams to optimize product development and launch, manufacturing capacity utilization, and organizational development. Work closely with the Finance department to establish and maintain the annual department budget to maximize plant profitability. Maintain adequate plant staffing while controlling labor and other overhead costs. Develop and track operational, compliance and other performance KPIs/metrics. People Leader Responsibilities This position carries out People Leader Responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include: Direct or indirect supervision of 75-125 employees, both salaried and hourly, including appraising, rewarding, and correcting performance, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. Interview, hire, and train employees. Plan, assign, and direct work. Develop and train team members to prepare them for future promotion (building bench strength). Hold all employees accountable for following standard work and meeting company core values. Required QualificationsEducation & Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or commensurate direct work experience. 7 years' manufacturing work experience. 5 years' progressive leadership, supervisory, and/or management experience. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs): Thorough understanding of lean tools, six sigma, kaizen, and other continuous improvement methods. General knowledge of annual budgeting process. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Ability to inspire and motivate others to perform at the highest level. Comfortable working in both a cross-functional team environment and independently. Ability to prioritize tasks, utilize time efficiently, and multi-task in an ever changing, fast-paced environment. Display professionalism and sound judgement in all situations. Analytical, organized, and detail oriented. Demonstrated ability to drive efficiency improvement and cost reduction projects to deliver significant results. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with internal staff and management. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Must be able to demonstrate practical problem solving and trouble shooting skills. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Preferred QualificationsTraining or certification in continuous improvement methods (lean, six sigma, Kaizen, etc.). Engineering or manufacturing management experience. Experience in a Continuous Improvement, Manufacturing Excellence, or Operational Excellence role. Experience in pharmaceutical, food, chemical, or consumer goods manufacturing. Experience with SAP.
