About the Role We're seeking a seasoned Payroll Manager to lead our payroll operations and ensure accurate, compliant, and timely compensation for our team. You'll oversee payroll processing, maintain systems and controls, and partner cross-functionally to support complex payroll and timekeeping needs. This role combines operational excellence, strategic thinking, and team leadership to elevate our payroll function. Your responsibilities will include: Payroll Leadership & Administration Lead end-to-end payroll operations, including semi-monthly payroll cycles and all related reporting. Audit time data, payroll records, and outputs to guarantee accuracy and completeness. Set and communicate payroll schedules, deadlines, and expectations across departments. Maintain payroll data (e.g., employee setup, pay rates, deductions, garnishments, job changes). Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, IRS, Oregon BOLI). Manage wage garnishments, tax withholdings, and statutory/voluntary deductions. Stay current on regulatory changes and lead updates to processes or systems. Systems & Process Improvement Serve as the subject-matter expert for payroll and related financial systems. Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, automation, and internal controls. Reconcile timekeeping and payroll systems to support accuracy and reporting integrity. Reporting & Financial Support Prepare and review payroll reconciliations, variance analyses, and journal entries. Assist with month-end close, year-end reporting, audits, and regulatory filings. Oversee accounts payable tasks tied to payroll, such as reimbursements and expense processing. Training, Communication & Service Respond to payroll inquiries with clear, professional guidance. Train managers on timekeeping systems, payroll processes, and system tools. Communicate updates related to pay schedules, tax forms, and payroll policies. Team Leadership & Collaboration Supervise the payroll team (workload management, coaching, feedback, and development). Build strong cross-department relationships to streamline interdependent processes. Champion a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement. Requirements Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience). 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including management of complex payroll operations. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, with a customer-service mindset. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, payroll systems, and standard business software. Ability to think critically, prioritize tasks, and work independently with integrity. Valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of employee information.
