Administer more complex respiratory therapy procedures to general and critical care patients under minimal supervision and according to established department policies, procedures and standards. Makes assessment of patients' respiratory status, administers prescribed therapies and monitors patient response to such therapies. May oversee and direct work of lower classified personnel and assists in training and orientation of new Respiratory Therapist or students as requested.Perform repetitive tasks in maintaining an assigned area in an orderly and sanitary condition. Qualifications for the job... Requires knowledge of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pulmonary physics, pulmonary physiology, advanced respiratory care, mathematics, blood gas chemistry and pharmacology at a level generally acquired through completion of a two year AMA approved program in Respiratory Therapy. Must have passed certified (CRT) and be licensed by Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy. Approximately six to twelve months' of progressively more responsible related work experience necessary to gain a complete understanding of respiratory therapy principles and procedures in order to provide assistance in resolution of difficult work related problems, orient and train new employees and provide technical advice on performing therapies. Analytical ability necessary to review and evaluate various laboratory results, conduct respiratory assessments, and properly operate technical respiratory equipment. Interpersonal skills necessary to explain therapy and goals to patients and family members and to communicate effectively with nursing personnel, physicians and other hospital personnel.
