Senior Mainframe Engineer

Job Summary Client is seeking a highly skilled Sr. Mainframe Engineer to join the R4 Responsive Security Master team within Brokerage Recordkeeping Technology. This role supports mission-critical reference data and pricing systems that serve millions of customers. The engineer will work in a hybrid environment, maintaining and enhancing high-volume production platforms across both mainframe and distributed systems. The role emphasizes production stability, incident remediation, application enhancements, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, maintain, and support large-scale mainframe applications in a high-availability production environment Provide senior-level production support, including incident investigation, root cause analysis, and remediation Perform application enhancements and system optimizations to improve performance, reliability, and scalability Integrate mainframe applications with distributed systems and cloud-based services Deploy and support software releases across environments following SDLC and change management processes Execute component-level testing and support end-to-end testing efforts Apply best practices in software lifecycle management, coding standards, and design patterns Collaborate closely with business partners, architects, and cross-functional engineering teams Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and modernization efforts Ensure system reliability, data integrity, and compliance with enterprise standards Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience Strong hands-on experience in mainframe development and support Advanced proficiency in: COBOL CICS VSAM JCL Mainframe utilities, FileAid, Endevor, schedulers, and debugging tools Extensive experience with DB2 and strong command of SQL Solid understanding of testing methodologies and production release processes Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems in a fast-paced production environment Technical Skills Mainframe Technologies: COBOL, CICS, VSAM, JCL Databases: DB2, Oracle, SQL Cloud / Distributed: AWS (support experience preferred) Development & Support Tools: Endevor, FileAid, schedulers, debuggers Preferred / Nice to Have Experience with distributed systems and cloud computing Working knowledge of Java Relevant certifications in mainframe or distributed technologies Soft Skills Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent verbal and written communication abilities Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams Comfortable implementing complex solutions in a dynamic, high-volume environment
