Head Camp Nurse (RN or LPN) - Pocono Mountains Residential Camp Location: Lake Como, PA Employment Type: Full-Time, Seasonal (June 8 - August 19, 2026) About Client An overnight camp in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania welcoming 300+ campers and staff each summer into a safe, joyful, close-knit community. The Health Center sits at the heart of operations, ensuring every camper can grow physically and emotionally throughout the season. Compensation & Benefits Base Salary: RN: $1,200-$1,500/week | LPN: $950-$1,200/week - Based on experience and qualifications; final compensation flexible based on leadership level and family needs Shift: One full day off per week; daily personal time built in Benefits Package: Private staff housing; all meals included; laundry service; tuition discount for enrolled campers; free childcare for children under 6 Job Summary A leadership role-not simply a staff nurse position. The Head Nurse directs all medical decisions and Health Center operations for a 300+ person residential community, supervising a three-nurse team in an 8-bed infirmary across the full summer season. Key Responsibilities Direct daily operations of the camp infirmary (8-bed capacity), including pre-camp setup and full-season readiness Supervise and schedule a team of three nurses; manage team time-off equitably across the season Oversee medication roll call for approximately 30% of campers receiving daily medications; coordinate with outside providers and pharmacies Keep documentation current and precise using the camp's online health management system Perform on-site diagnostics including strep testing and other basic assessments Train staff on medical procedures including EpiPen administration Address health concerns and contact parents when clinically significant updates are needed Respond to emergencies with composure; oversee transfers to local medical facilities as required Work within established protocols with county emergency services (average ambulance response: 25-30 minutes) Coordinate with visiting physicians; ensure additional nursing coverage is in place when no physician is on-site Minimum Requirements Active RN or LPN license in good standing 4+ years of professional nursing experience 3+ years working with children ages 6-17 Demonstrated experience supervising or leading a medical team Comfortable training others in clinical procedures Strong organizational and scheduling capabilities Able and willing to live and work on-site for the full summer commitment Ideal Qualifications Background in school nursing, pediatrics, or a prior camp leadership role Calm and decisive under pressure; clear-headed in clinical decision-making Highly organized with a collaborative approach to working alongside camp administration Genuinely excited to contribute to camp life beyond clinical responsibilities How to Apply At Rio Staffing, we specialize in connecting skilled professionals with well-run organizations and high-quality programs.
