Organization: Resuscitation Program Job Summary: JOB SUMMARY Implements and delivers basic and advanced interactive, scenario-based learning programs for resuscitation techniques, skills and knowledge, course evaluations and course completion assessments under occasional guidance. Utilizes communication, adult learning concepts and technical skills to meet training program objectives as an AHA certified trainer. Presents and directs Basic and Advanced Life Support courses, particularly America Heart Association courses in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. Serves as AHA Training Center Faculty. Serves as a resource person, consultant and liaison to the VUMC Community. Resuscitation Training Instructor (BLS/ACLS/PALS) Location: Nashville, TN - 3401 West End Ave, with potential travel to regional locations Schedule: Full Time, Monday-Friday, daytime hours Shape the future of life-saving care at Vanderbilt Health. Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking an experienced and engaging Resuscitation Training Instructor to deliver high-quality Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training across our health system. In this role, you will help prepare clinicians for critical, life-saving moments by using AHA-aligned curriculum, simulation activities, hands-on practice, and adult learning strategies. This position is ideal for an AHA Instructor, clinical educator, respiratory therapist, paramedic, nurse, or anyone with experience teaching life-support courses who is passionate about developing learners and improving patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities • Deliver AHA-aligned BLS, ACLS, PALS, and related life-support programs for clinical and non-clinical staff. • Facilitate skills assessments, evaluations, and competency verification to meet certification requirements. • Utilize simulation, scenario-based instruction, and adult learning principles to support effective education. • Prepare and maintain equipment, materials, documentation, and course records. • Serve as Lead Instructor or Course Director for assigned classes. • Mentor new instructors and contribute to resuscitation education quality and consistency across the system. • Maintain knowledge of current AHA updates, resuscitation science, and best practices. Required Qualifications • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in clinical care, emergency response, or resuscitation instruction • Valid driver's license with an insurable driving record • Experience teaching or facilitating BLS, ACLS, PALS, or similar life-support training • Strong communication, presentation, and learner engagement skills Preferred Qualifications • Licensed Respiratory Therapist, Registered Nurse (RN), or Paramedic • Current AHA BLS Instructor certification • ACLS and PALS Instructor certification, or willingness to obtain • Experience as a Course Director, instructor mentor, simulation educator, or Training Center Faculty Why Vanderbilt? This includes: education in orientation, in-services, formal classes, and continuing education for employees within Vanderbilt Medical Center and the surrounding community. Ensures all equipment, supplies and teaching materials are available, clean and in working order. Assists with participant check in and check out as needed. Assists Program Coordinator, administers dispute resolution policy for late arrivals, unsuccessful completing of class, and instructor issues. May review all course evaluations and provide needed feedback to instructors. • Delivers evidence-based, basic and advanced resuscitation training for all staff. • Administers cognitive and psychomotor skills evaluations to determine competency and successful course completion. • Uses evidence-based learning materials, as well as the latest science and research to deliver training. Applies strategies of adult learning as well as appropriate instructional strategies to optimize learning. • Ensures that all material is current and distributes updated material to participants. Available to train all necessary classes, including some weekend and after-hours classes. Follows all required facilitator notes and procedures. • Serves as a technical expert resource for any hospital projects related to emergency resuscitation as assigned by the Resuscitation Program Manager. • Consults as needed for special projects that require knowledge of resuscitation skills, science, and techniques or processes that affect patient care. • Collaborates within the department and organization. • Provides timely and constructive intervention and feedback to promote quality and consistency in the delivery of training. • Accurately records data and completes course paperwork entirely. • Conducts Instructor Courses for BLS and Facilitates Instructor Tracts for ACLS and PALS. Identifies Instructor potential candidates from students of provider courses based on criteria determined by the Resuscitation Program. Mentors instructors to promote confidence and continuous improvement of teaching skills. • Serves as Course Director for advanced Life Support courses and Lead Instructor for Basic Life Support Courses as requested. Conducts resuscitation courses according to American Heart Association guidelines for CPR and ECC and in line with AHA Program Administration Manual (PAM). Responsible for overall course from course planning to clean up after the course. • May supervise other instructors during courses, assuring that all instructors adhere to the guidelines and recommendations of the American Heart Assoc. for CPR and ECC. Provides timely and constructive intervention and feedback to promote quality and consistency in the delivery of training. Monitors other instructors according to the AHA guidelines as part of the instructor renewal process and overall quality assurance. • The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
