Description The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Piedmont University invites applications for a 9-month Assistant/Associate/Full Professor rank beginning August 2024. Piedmont University is a teaching-focused institution with small class sizes. The university culture provides opportunities for the scholarship of teaching and learning, student mentorship, and clinical scholarship. The position includes opportunities for teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in areas of specialization, supervising students on campus in the Piedmont University Speech and Language Clinic, and engaging in scholarly activity and service to the department, college, and university at large. Piedmont University is in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. It is the perfect mix of small-town ease and access to metropolitan areas (e.g., Athens, Gainesville). Essential Functions and Responsibilities Achieve effective classroom, lab, and clinical teaching and interacting with students in a professional manner through: Maintaining accurate and secure records of student grades, attendance, and advisement. Maintaining high standards of professionalism in the content, objectives, teaching, and grading of all courses. Filing accurate course syllabi with the appropriate school each semester. Maintaining an understanding of college policies and the curriculum and degree requirements of their respective schools. Participating in departmental, school, and college faculty meetings and serving on committees as appropriate. Contributing to the ongoing operation of their respective departments and schools. Assessing their teaching effectiveness via annual evaluation and evaluating courses formally in accordance with official college procedure. Assuring their availability to students, faculty, staff, and administrators by posting and keeping reasonable office hours, as determined by the dean of their respective schools. Other relevant duties as assigned. Regular and predictable attendance is required. On-site work is required. Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs. Typical Qualifications Required Education and Experience To be considered, applicants will hold a terminal degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field; however, exceptional A.B.D. candidates will also be considered with an expected completion of their doctoral degree before May 2025. Doctorate degree: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Communication Disorders and Sciences (or closely related discipline) MS/MA/MEd in Speech-Language Pathology Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology Licenses and Certifications Valid Georgia's driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days and a satisfactory MVR. Supplemental Information ENVIRONMENTAL, PHYSICAL, and VISUAL ACUITY FACTORS Work will be performed inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents will perform primarily sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Incumbents will regularly get up and down from a seated position, reach, bend, and stand throughout the day. Incumbents must have close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe, view a computer terminal, and read extensively.
