Job Summary The Shipping & Receiving Manager oversees all shipping, receiving, and warehousing operations to ensure efficient, accurate, secure, and cost-effective distribution services. This position is responsible for processing shipment orders, monitoring packaging and labeling of completed orders, evaluating carrier and departmental performance, and ensuring compliance with all food safety, regulatory, and company standards. The role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure smooth product flow from production through shipment while maintaining budgetary control and operational excellence. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications (Required) A high school diploma or GED is required. A minimum of five years of supervisory or management experience in food manufacturing, warehousing, distribution, or operations is required. The candidate must possess strong knowledge of shipping industry regulations and shipping and receiving practices, in-depth knowledge of logistics and shipping documentation, and working knowledge of inventory systems management. Proficiency in electronic shipping software is required, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel is preferred. The individual must be knowledgeable in Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Defense and Food Safety programs, HACCP, inventory control systems, and OSHA regulations relating to forklift operation. A valid forklift operator license is required. The role requires advanced analytical, leadership, organizational, budgeting, reporting, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, sales personnel, and customers. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, mass, and volume. A high level of interpersonal skills is required to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation. The ability to manage small and large projects, consistently meet deadlines, and develop written procedures to improve departmental efficiency is essential. Preferred Qualifications A bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred. Key Responsibilities NOTE: This description is not intended to be all-inclusive. The Shipping & Receiving Manager enforces all company work procedures, safety rules, and company policies and ensures compliance with all HACCP programs, food safety plans, Safe Quality Food (SQF) programs, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Good Documentation Practices. The position manages and monitors shipping, receiving, and warehousing policies, programs, and procedures and develops and implements standard operating procedures as needed. The manager is accountable for inventory security through system transactions, documentation controls, process verification, and system reviews. The role oversees the daily operations of receiving, warehousing, staging, and shipping, while monitoring warehouse capacity for finished goods, packaging materials, and raw ingredients. The manager ensures receiving processes comply with established SOPs to prevent ingredient contamination, allergen cross-contact, packaging material damage, and safety risks. The position motivates, evaluates, and trains team members on a regular basis, conducts disciplinary actions when necessary, and ensures weekly safety training and meetings are completed. The manager monitors and approves employee time sheets, conducts timely performance reviews, and enforces company rules in a fair and consistent manner. The Shipping & Receiving Manager evaluates procedures, systems, resources, and equipment to identify deficiencies and implements process improvements to increase departmental efficiency. The role reports any food safety or quality concerns to personnel with authority to initiate corrective action and collaborates with all department heads, attending management meetings as required. The position negotiates shipment transportation rates with carriers, monitors carrier performance, resolves logistics and order issues, and maintains shipping operations within budget without compromising speed or efficiency. The manager serves as a liaison between management, carriers, and customers and collaborates with internal departments to optimize the flow of orders from preparation through shipment. All processes are documented and reported to senior management as required. Work Environment This position operates in a fast-paced warehouse and manufacturing environment. The role requires frequent interaction with production, quality, maintenance, and logistics personnel. The manager may be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, and equipment operation areas and must consistently follow all company safety and food safety policies. Physical Demands The position requires the ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The role requires frequent reaching above chest level and use of hands and arms to handle materials and equipment. The manager may operate manual pallet jacks and manage loads exceeding 2,000 pounds. The position requires good vision, including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus while working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
