Submit Your Application Position Description Job Overview: We are seeking a motivated and reliable Bottom Man to join our highway heavy construction team. The Bottom Man plays a critical support role in underground utility and pipe installation, working directly in the trench to ensure proper alignment, grade, and placement of pipe and structures. This position requires strong communication with equipment operators, pipe layers, and the top man to maintain safety, accuracy, and productivity on the job site. Key Responsibilities:Assist with the installation of storm sewer, water main, sanitary sewer, and other underground utilities. Work in the trench to set grade, align pipe, and provide direction/signals to equipment operators. Check pipe joints, bedding, and alignment for accuracy and compliance with specifications. Assist with backfilling, compaction, and site cleanup as needed. Ensure safety protocols are followed at all times, including trench safety and confined space awareness. Communicate effectively with the pipe layer, operator, and crew to maintain smooth workflow. Perform manual labor duties such as shoveling, raking, and handling construction materials. Position Requirements Qualifications & Requirements:Previous experience in underground utility or heavy highway construction preferred. Ability to read grade stakes, use a laser, and measure for pipe alignment. Comfortable working in trenches and around heavy equipment. Physically capable of performing labor-intensive tasks in varying weather conditions. Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn. Ability to work as part of a team and follow directions. OSHA 10/30 or other safety certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain). Must be a union member in good standing or willing to join as per company and union requirements. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
