The City of Flagstaff is currently hiring multiple candidates for this position. This job involves delivering excellent customer service while ensuring the safety of patrons by monitoring pool activities and performing rescues and life-saving procedures as needed. Responsibilities include maintaining pool and equipment safety, logging pool chemicals, and cleaning pool and locker room areas. The role may also include teaching water safety classes, assisting with aquatics events, completing related duties, maintaining regular attendance, and communicating availability changes to a supervisor. Please note: This is a part-time, temporary role that does not qualify for benefits. Examples of the Work PerformedProvides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers. Monitors the activities of patrons in the pool area. Performs rescue and life-saving techniques. Monitors the condition of the swimming pool and ensures that the facility and equipment is safe and usable. Regularly logs pool chemicals as directed. May clean the pool, deck, and locker room areas according to standards set by management. Includes contact with household chemicals and pool testing kits. May demonstrate, teach, and lead American Red Cross Water Safety classes. Assists with planning and implementing Aquatics special events. Performs related duties as required. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity. Actively communicates with Supervisor regarding changes in availability. To review the full job description, please click here: QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certificate AND Current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR certificates or ability to obtain within 30 days (the City of Flagstaff can facilitate with a 3 day training post-hire). Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certificate, or be willing to obtain certification within 6 months of employment. Due to safety sensitive nature of this position, pre-employment or pre-placement alcohol, drug and/or controlled substance testing as outlined in City policies and procedures DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Some experience as a Lifeguard. Some experience teaching swimming at all levels (beginner to advanced) and age groups. Competitive swimming experience. Some experience with adaptive aquatics. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Ability to work split shifts, weekdays, weekends, early mornings, and/or evenings as assigned.
