Fire personnel perform firefighting duties, emergency medical services (Advanced Life Support), rescue operations, hazardous materials response, and fire prevention efforts. Team members also participate in public education, community outreach events, and ensure the readiness of fire apparatus and related equipment. This position operates on a 48/96 hours schedule and plays a vital role in safeguarding lives and property while engaging with the growing Anna community. We invite applications from Firefighter/Paramedics, Firefighter/EMTs, and TDSHS-certified Paramedics. Certified Firefighter/EMTs and TDSHS-certified paramedics lacking their TCFP Firefighter-Basic certification must meet licensing requirements for Paramedic or Firefighter-Basic within a City-defined timeframe. Lateral Program Experienced Firefighter/Paramedics with fulltime service may qualify for the City of Anna's Lateral Program. Applicants with three (3) or more years of fulltime paid experience may qualify to start at STEP-2. Applicants with five (5) or more years of fulltime paid experience may qualify to start at STEP-3. Applicants wishing to be considered for lateral entry may be asked to provide copies of their performance evaluations for their last three (3) years of fulltime experience. Out-of-state applicants must provide written confirmation that they are eligible for reciprocity and have proof that they are in the process of obtaining a paramedic certification and structural fire fighting certifications from the State of Texas. Consideration of lateral entry will be granted on a case-by-case basis following a review of the candidate's application, Personal History Statement and supplied performance evaluations for the fulltime service experience. Passing all stages of the hiring process is mandatory. A determination to grant or deny lateral entry will be determined prior to a conditional job offer. EXAMPLES OF DUTIESRespond to fire calls, rescue calls, medical, hazardous material calls, and other emergency calls. Perform fire suppression functions, including firefighting, rescue operations, deploying and operating hoses, ventilating roofs, and performing salvage work after fires. Perform pre-fire planning. Participate in hazardous materials mitigation response and other related tasks associated with fire suppression, rescue operations and hazardous material response. Administer emergency medical services to injured persons if needed as a first responder. Inspect new and existing buildings for fire code compliance. Assist with the investigation into the cause of fires. Perform operational readiness evaluation on the fire apparatus and equipment to ensure it is always fully prepared and functional. Inventories equipment and tools to include the drive train, brakes, lights, fire pump, tires, radios, SCBA operational checks and all fluid levels upon reporting for duty. Prepare and submit fire reports and daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance check reports and daily check sheet logs. Perform minor equipment maintenance on apparatus and general cleaning of apparatus and station quarters. Participate in fire training classes and drills. Study technical materials on equipment operation, fire suppression and fire prevention to improve or maintain an effective level of performance. Study street maps to learn the district assigned as necessary and study building pre-plans. Inform supervisor of all work activities and reports any public inquiries or complaints, inform supervisor of any equipment in need of repair and of all public injuries or accidents. Maintain required Texas Department of State Health Services EMT-P and Texas Commission on Fire Protection Firefighter certifications. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned. TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONSHigh school or GED Must pass a drug screen, criminal background check, MVR check and any other verification required by the Anna Fire Department. Disqualifiers Review Before You Apply License or Certification Must possess or obtain Class "B" license at time of hire or within 6 months of hire. Must obtain or possess and maintain a valid Basic Structural Firefighter certificate from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP). Must obtain or possess and maintain a valid Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (TDSHS EMT-P) certification.
