Perform assigned duties to acquire knowledge of methods, procedures and standards required for successful performance. Specific activities vary by department. Work is performed under direct supervision.This internship is with the Community and Economic Development(C&ED) located in City Hall at 228 South Massachusetts Avenue in Lakeland, FL. Interns will work a maximum of 30 hours a week. This internship begins in early June.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Assists Planning staff in compiling data and preparing reports/ applications to seek Bike Friendly, Trail Town and National Park City designations Assists with technical review of site development plans and conducts site visits as needed Assists with review and analysis of zoning applications for compliance with land use regulations and other city growth management policies Attends and participates in public workshops, hearings and meetings Attends and participates in department/committee meetings as assigned Provides support to staff as assigned ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform related work as required QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE)Currently enrolled as a sophomore in an accredited college or university in a major relating to Urban and Regional Planning.Required: A Resumé must be uploaded with application.Required: A Cover Letter must be uploaded with application.Required: A copy of your Unofficial Transcript from your most recent educational institution must be uploaded with this application.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Knowledge of urban planning principles Knowledge of site plan reviews Possess research and writing skills Wiling to work a flexible schedule Skill in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees and the general public Skill in communicating effectively both verbally and in writing, and to request clarification when needed WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS: Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, routine keyboard operations The job risks exposure to no significant environmental hazards The job requires normal visual acuity, and field of vision, hearing and speaking All City of Lakeland positions are subject to testing (e.g. written, oral, performance, computerized, interview, and/or any combination).
