Sullivan School District Position DescriptionPosition Title: Speech and Language PathologistDepartment: Special EducationStatus: ExemptTerms of Employment: To be established by the Board of Education annuallyReports To: Director of Special EducationPrepared By: Superintendent of Schools Date: 1/10/23Approved By: Board of Education Date: 1/24/23SUMMARY: Responsible for providing and implementing a comprehensive speech and language therapy program that assesses, diagnoses, treats, and prevents language, cognitive, communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and other disorders. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties may be assigned. Instructional Skills: Provides a thorough assessment and diagnosis of impairment. Identifies student needs and develops strategies for an individual education plan. Provides training to the appropriate person to carry out therapy goals in the school setting. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified impairments. Implements the requirements of the Individual Education Program (IEP) by providing appropriate therapy. Builds trust and confidence with students, parents, and teachers. Monitors student progress. Maintains the physical environment of the classroom. Professional Responsibilities: Participates in Professional Development. Participates in building Special Education meetings. Participates in screening activities. Demonstrates enthusiasm toward the profession. Assumes responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed supplies. Maintains accurate files and paperwork for the individual students referred, screened, and/or receiving therapy or other school-provided services. Follows the policies and procedures of the school district and State Law. Maintains regular attendance. Maintains confidentiality and unquestionable integrity. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises students. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Masters in Speech and Language Correction CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Certificate of Clinical Competence and Missouri License COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals consistent with the position. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the general public. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational assessments MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts and apply that knowledge to scoring and interpretation of assessments. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a large amount of information. TECHNOLOGY: Competent with computer skills, including web browsing, email, word processing, Google platform, and the student information system. Must have the ability to learn and utilize new software programs as systems are upgraded. Utilize smart boards, projectors, copy machines, faxes, and other technology provided by the district. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement model lessons and teacher professional development based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Knowledge of subject matter content. Knowledge of child/adolescent development. Demonstrates patience, respect, and understanding of students and parents. Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral form. Ability to administer and interpret standardized testing instruments. Ability to perform all duties in full compliance with all district requirements and Board policies.
