Job Type Full-time Description DescriptionAbout the Role Fermi America is seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to join a small, on-site engineering team supporting the design and construction of multi-gigawatt gas and nuclear generation facilities. This execution-focused role provides technical leadership and oversight of A/E firms and EPC contractors to ensure designs are constructible, code-compliant, and aligned with field execution. The position requires strong technical judgment and hands-on construction experience to identify risks early, challenge assumptions, and drive safe, efficient, and timely delivery. Nuclear experience is a plus, but demonstrated industrial or power plant construction capability is the priority. This role will directly contribute to delivering one of the largest power infrastructure programs in the world. Key Responsibilities • Serve as the Owner's CSA technical authority for gas and nuclear generation, substations, cooling systems, and campus infrastructure • Provide technical oversight of external A/E firms and EPC contractors to ensure designs are complete, code-compliant, constructible, and execution-ready • Perform limited in-house CSA design development, as required, to define Owner intent, address urgent field or design issues, and bridge scope gaps between A/E and EPC teams • Review and validate civil, structural, and architectural designs, engineering assumptions (including geotechnical recommendations), and structural approaches for constructability and alignment with field execution • Identify design gaps, risks, inefficiencies, and technical issues; drive timely resolution and support rapid decision-making • Provide on-site engineering support during construction of foundations, concrete/steel structures, utilities, grading, and site infrastructure • Review RFIs, submittals, inspections, QA/QC activities, field changes, and commissioning readiness of systems in coordination with EPC and construction teams • Support development of Basis of Design, Owner standards, and technical specifications • Coordinate across mechanical, electrical, nuclear, and construction teams to ensure integrated, executable designs and advise leadership on engineering risk, cost, schedule, and constructability impacts Requirements Required Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or related discipline) • 10+ years of civil/structural engineering experience supporting heavy industrial, power generation, or large infrastructure projects • Proven experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and contractor submittals and working directly with EPC contractors, A/E firms, and construction teams • Strong technical expertise in structural concrete and steel, heavy equipment foundations, and site civil systems (grading, drainage, and utilities), with solid constructability judgment and field awareness • Demonstrated ability to identify risks early, drive technical resolution, and provide clear technical leadership through strong communication skills • Ability to work on-site in Amarillo, Texas Preferred Qualifications • Professional License and/or Certification • Experience supporting combined cycle gas and/or nuclear power plant projects, including work in Owner's engineering, Owner's representative, or EPC roles on large infrastructure programs • Familiarity with nuclear safety-related structures and NRC-regulated facilities, as well as substations, switchyards, cooling towers, and water infrastructure systems
