DescriptionJob Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) FSLA: Exempt Full Time (40 hours/week) Reports To: Vice President Administration Supervisory: 1 employee and multiple vendor relationships Wage Range: $110,000-$140,000Summary Serving more than 250,000 adults and children each year, the Connecticut Science Center is the state's premier destination for informal science learning, a top tourist attraction, a hub for teacher training, and one of the state's foremost resources for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will lead the financial strategy, planning and analysis, and direct functions of accounting, bookkeeping, accounts payable, tax and audit compliance, information technology and telecommunications. Key Responsibilities1. Business/Finance • Lead and manage business functions, including macro and micro operations budget analysis, short and long-term financial strategy and planning, business line and project ROI analysis and strategy. • Manage the organization's financial operations including oversight of day-to-day accounting functions, investments and banking. • Review and post all journal entries. • Prepare, analyze and present succinct financial reports in an accurate and timely manner to audiences including staff, management team and, as assigned, committees of the board or the full board • Clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements to senior leadership for control and decision making. • In collaboration with other functions and leaders, develop, review and manage annual budgeting, forecasting and planning processes, monitor progress and changes and produce monthly budget versus actual reports. • Manage organizational cash flow and cash forecasting. • Manage annual audit, coordinate activities with outside accounting firm, and review firm's performance. • Calculate annual use of investments for operations, manage transfers to/from the investment portfolio, and prepare monthly investment summary report. • Supervise and serve as backup to Finance Manager during absences. • Monitor and maintain internal controls while overseeing financial systems and related compliance requirements. • Working with the Development Team, produce and/or review financial reports for foundation and other grants as needed. • Monitor expenditures and seek efficiencies. • Working with human resources, assist in processing bi-weekly payroll. • Update and implement all necessary written business and accounting policies and procedures as needed. • Contribute analysis and collaborate in preparation of near- and longer-term capital needs assessment. • Work in partnership with the Vice President Administration to support other administration functions including, but not limited to human resources, on-site partners, and business insurance. • Other duties as assigned. 2. Information Technology & Telecommunications • Manage and serve as liaison with third-party IT support vendor to maintain reliable and efficient IT and telecommunications systems, including the facility's network, internal and external connectivity, voice and data communications services and equipment. • Lead a cross functional team to guide and manage use of AI including development of appropriate policies and procedures. RequirementsRequirements and Qualifications: As a member of the management team with mission-critical cross-functional relationships throughout the organization, the CFO is a highly skilled analyst, strategist and manager of all aspects of business finance appropriate to the Connecticut Science Center, having advanced capabilities in business performance and ROI analysis for decision making and control. As supervisor of all business finance functions, the CFO will have a demonstrated ability to review and analyze the financial work of others and produce work independently. The CFO will be an effective collaborator, working with other disciplines within the organization to generate, implement and report on grant and other detailed financial relationships and maximizing revenue potential of other operations, including services and retail. The role requires highly developed accounting and financial capabilities, a strategic view and effective inter-departmental and interpersonal collaboration and communications skills. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field required. 5+ years relevant work in non-profit finance management and accounting or equivalent roles desired. Business management, including financial accounting and control. Financial reporting in a business environment, including whole-business and program/project reporting. Financial structure and modeling for planning of business strategies, initiatives, projects and programs. Personnel and vendor supervision and leadership. Expert computer skills, including Microsoft office, with power-user proficiency in Excel. Eye for detail and accuracy is imperative. Excellent organizational, verbal and written skills appropriate to reports and interactions with staff, executive team and board of trustees. Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment and meet short deadlines. Ability to work with confidential information and exercise discretion and judgment. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and dedication. Experience in Information Technology and telecommunications. Expected to gain proficiency in the following software currently used by the finance department including, but not limited to: Abila MIP, Tessitura, Clover, EZ Content Manager, Adaptive Budgeting and Reporting. • Ability and expectation to work on site at the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford, CT. Physical requirements: Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing Reach with hands and arms, twist, bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch Ability to lift and/or move 10 pounds Moderate to long periods of standing and sitting for several hours in duration are required Consistently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus Qualified applicants will go through an application process, interview process and must successfully complete a background and credit check.
