General Summary The Advanced Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing, implementing, and evaluating respiratory care for assigned patients. This role requires clinical competence aligned with the respiratory care scope of practice and adherence to professional ethical standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Apply critical thinking to respiratory care practices and maintain up-to-date knowledge through continuing education. Administer treatments and monitor patient responses to improve quality and safety. Deliver quality respiratory care, including pharmacological, diagnostic, and therapeutic interventions. Maintain certifications, licensure, and competencies without lapse. Accurately document patient care activities following established policies. Identify and address quality issues to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety. Adhere to safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling. Demonstrate dependability by meeting deadlines, working independently, and adapting positively to change. Manage workload effectively, prioritize tasks, and foster teamwork and accountability. Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, patients, and families to enhance care and patient experience. Support departmental goals, assist in orienting new staff and students, and participate in organizational initiatives. Education Graduate of a CoARC-accredited Respiratory Care Program. Experience Preferred: One year of respiratory therapy experience. Certification and Licensure Active credentialing by the National Board for Respiratory Care is highly preferred. State licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications required. Mental and Physical Requirements Requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Working Conditions Exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals may occur. Frequent contact with communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is expected. Minimal physical discomfort is anticipated.
