POSITION SUMMARY: The Teen Leadership Coordinator/Waterfront Supervisor is a full-time seasonal leadership position responsible for the supervision, training, and development of youth participants within the Teen Leadership Program, including Counselors in Training (CITs) and Assistant Counselors (ACs) ages 13-17. Under the limited supervision of the Camp Director, this role provides structured training, assigns and monitors weekly leadership placements, manages behavior support, and ensures teens are meaningfully integrated into camp operations. Additionally, the role oversees day-to-day waterfront safety and lifeguard performance. By guiding teens through purposeful skill-building and maintaining safe program environments, the Teen Leadership Coordinator helps cultivate future leaders while upholding overall program quality, safety, and positive youth development. This position works Monday-Friday from the start of June through the middle of August, varying between the hours of 7:00am - 5:00pm with some Thursday overnights required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Facilitate a weekly orientation meeting by conducting introductions, reviewing expectations, and leading a guided camp tour to ensure CITs and ACs clearly understand their roles and responsibilities for the week. Provide structured Teen Leadership training through planned lessons, hands-on activities, and ongoing coaching to build participants' leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. Assign teen leaders to cabin groups or program areas each week and conduct regular check-ins with Camp Counselors and teen leaders to ensure proper support, strong engagement, and continuous leadership growth. Supervise, coach, and evaluate teen leaders by observing performance, delivering constructive feedback, and scheduling designated times for community service projects (ACs) and team-building activities (CITs) to promote meaningful skill development and readiness for future camp roles. Address behavioral concerns promptly by applying camp disciplinary procedures and collaborating with the Camp Director when needed to maintain a positive, safe, and developmentally appropriate environment. Oversee daily camp store operations by coordinating teen leader assistance during lunch periods and Friday Finale events to ensure accurate transactions, camper engagement, and responsible teen participation. Lead and support specialty program activities-including Tie Dye Tuesday and Thursday Themed Events-by supervising and assisting teen leaders to ensure smooth execution and creative, high-quality experiences. Provide on-site supervision during Thursday Overnight experiences on an alternating schedule with the Program Coordinator to ensure camper safety, teen leader support, and successful overnight program delivery. Oversee waterfront operations by scheduling lifeguards, monitoring rotations, remaining present or immediately available while the waterfront is open, evaluating lifeguard performance, and checking equipment to ensure safe aquatic environments and compliance with safety standards. Maintain a safe, inclusive, and professional camp environment by enforcing camp rules, youth protection policies, abuse-prevention practices, and emergency procedures while serving as a first responder to ensure participant well-being and reduce safety risks. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; coursework in education, youth development, recreation, or leadership preferred. At least one season of prior camp experience required; previous leadership or supervisory experience in a youth development setting preferred. Minimum age of 18 years old. Ability to supervise, mentor, and support teens ages 13-17 in a leadership development setting. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage behavior concerns, provide coaching, and model professionalism. Ability to adapt to fast-paced, dynamic camp environments. Current First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard, and Waterfront Supervisor certifications required prior to the start of camp (paid training provided). Access to reliable transportation to travel to and from assigned work location on a daily basis, including bus sites and camp. WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position operates in an active outdoor camp environment with regular movement among program areas, waterfront, fields, and office spaces. The role requires extended periods of standing, walking, and active participation in camp programming. Physical demands include lifting program equipment and working in varied weather conditions. Early morning, late-afternoon, and occasional overnight hours may be required based on program needs. This position serves on the Camp Emergency Response Team and Leadership Team and may be required to respond to or assist with safety situations.
