Location: 3535 Market St Summary: Manages the administration of the Health System's medical malpractice insurance program (Risk Retention Group (RRG) for 7 hospitals and over 7,000 providers with annual expenses of over $130 million and net liabilities of over $600 million. This position manages the program including liability estimation and budget preparation as well as coordination and with brokers, actuary, auditors and in-house counsel. Implement efficient customer focused processes and systems which includes ensuring the existence of an adequate system of internal controls appropriate for a complex operating environment. Responsible for communication and coordination of reporting on risk issues related to medical malpractice program self-insured liabilities, to include staying abreast of current issues and changes. As a member of the Corporate Finance Department, the Director will build effective relationships with entity operation and financial leadership as well as University Risk Management leadership. Responsibilities: Provide leadership for the development, implementation and maintenance of common financial systems and standards in a coordinated and efficient manner. Ensure UPHS fully utilizes appropriate financial controls and is in compliance with Federal and State requirements with adequate loss reserves for the Medical Malpractice Liability Program. Oversee MCARE Fund compliance activity and the physician and resident rostering process. Serve on the Finance and Insurance Subcommittee of the UPHS Professional Liability Oversight Committee and report on emerging trends, risk financing issues and risk avoidance opportunities related to UPHS self assumed exposure. Responsible for annual Medical Malpractice Liability Program budget and long range planning estimates (expense and accrual basis) including determining professional liability program cost allocation by entity based on agreed upon methodologies for use by the Office of Corporate Finance. Analyze financial reports received from wholly owned professional liability insurance facilities, Franklin Casualty Insurance Company (RRG) in Vermont and Quaker Insurance Company Ltd. in Bermuda. Develop and maintain key internal relationships with professional liability program stakeholders including the Office of the General Counsel, the University's Office of Risk Management & Insurance, Office of Corporate Finance, Office of Medical Affairs and hospital administration and physician leadership. Additionally, maintain working relationship with external actuarial firm, audit firm and Captive management teams. Recruit and retain talented results oriented team; develop and maintain effective succession and contingency plans to ensure continued operations. Integrate new organizations into program as they join health system. Facilitated risk assessments, contract reviews, and agreements with Origami, ensuring data security and compliance with internal policies. Plan and coordinate annual Franklin Casualty and Quaker Insurance Board meetings. Credentials: ARM, CPHRM, ACI or similar designation is preferred. Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor's degree is required. Education Specialization: Business Administration, Risk Management/Insurance or Related field. 10+ years Risk Management; Financial Management experience is required. 5+ years Experience in a complex organization or Academic Health System; Captive insurance program is preferred.
