Position Overview: The Health & Safety Specialist will assist in the preparation and training related to health and safety of site personnel with a primary emphasis on OSHA, hazard recognition, workplace inspections, safety training, site specific awareness, and emergency response. The Health and Safety Specialist helps train workers in safety procedures and requirements, monitor working conditions, and ensure proper procedures are in place and being followed. The Health & Safety Specialist also takes an active role in the facilities emergency response plans and incident investigations by assisting in developing, inspecting, auditing procedures, coordinating response actions, and developing corrective actions to deal with hazards and emergencies. Under the supervision of the EHS Manager, the Health and Safety specialist leads investigations, identifies, reports, and recommends corrective action for a wide variety of workplace industrial hygiene factors that may impact employee safety, health, and productivity. Position Responsibilities: Monitors, assesses, and resolves health and safety issues in the work environment. Identifies and evaluates chemical and biological dangers such as air quality, ergonomic challenges, water, or dangerous sound levels. Completes routine site wide inspections to remain in compliance with regulations. Evaluates proposed process modifications, additions, and changes to identify potential safety concerns and recommends appropriate safeguards. Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property work in compliance with MP Materials policies and safety requirements. Assist site champions as needed in development, roll out and updating SWIs as needed. Provide advice, assistance, and audit procedures to ensure overall effectiveness. Develop safety training and conduct physical training across all shifts. Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies corrected. Lead investigations reviewing accidents and incidents for completeness with findings and corrective actions. Assist with field activities by conducting inspections and audits and providing training to employees and contractors on hazard recognition, unsafe acts and conditions and regulatory compliance with OSHA and EPA. Basic Qualifications: 3+ years' experience in a Health and Safety role. Certified in OSHA 10 and/or OHSA 30 Certified First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer. Desired Qualities: Excellent organizational and motivational skills. Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability. Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities. The ability to take initiative, to maintain confidentiality, to meet deadlines, and to work in a team environment is essential. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple/detail-oriented tasks. Ability to evaluate manufacturing/industrial processes and develop solutions.
