Salary: See Position Description Location : Alvin College Job Type: Part-time CE (Instructor) Job Number: FY2526-063 Divison: Workforce & Strategic Initiatives Department: Continuing Education & Workforce Development Opening Date: 09/01/2025 Closing Date: 8/31/2026 11:59 PM Central This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool in our Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include working days, evenings and/or weekends. May require travel to our main campus in Alvin and/or to various offsite locations, including local high schools in Alvin, Danbury, Manvel and Pearland and to Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities in Richmond, Rosharon or Lake Jackson. Requires the provision of official transcripts, licenses and/or certifications within (30) days of hire. Applicants with academic credentials from non-U.S. accredited institutions are required to have their coursework evaluated in terms of U.S. "equivalency." All international credential evaluations must be conducted by one of the companies affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES®) in order to be considered for a faculty position. Applicants bear the responsibility of requesting, paying associated fees, and obtaining an original transcript evaluation for submission to the Office of Human Resources. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Instructor will teach a variety of courses within the Clinical Medical Assisting (CMA) Program. The position prepares and provides lecture, laboratory, and clinical instruction according to the required curriculum established by Alvin College. This position requires the individual to follow the current course outlines, objectives, evaluation mechanisms for the medical assisting program and procedures within the classroom and laboratory. The instructor constantly evaluates their effectiveness in the classroom by helping students obtain course learning outcomes and the impact that they have on student retention in the Clinical Medical Assisting Program. Teaches a variety of medical assisting courses which may be scheduled days, nights, weekends and/or online Provides educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled class times Provides classroom and clinical instruction using a variety of teaching strategies to achieve course and program learning outcomes Observes students in the clinical setting as needed Prepares and distributes course outline / syllabi to students Maintains relationships with clinical affiliates to ensure excellent learning opportunities for students Maintains a time and effort report of daily activities for grants reporting Recommends and identifies programs and/or course improvements as needed to the CEWD Director of Health Programs Participates in curriculum development and/or revisions as needed Participates in textbook selection as needed Identifies and reacts promptly, appropriately, and decisively in correcting safety issues Monitors and documents student attendance/retention Complies with CEWD department and Alvin College policies and procedures Participates in program meetings Grades assignments, returns graded assignments, and assigns final grades for all students in a timely manner Monitors all equipment and supply inventory Secures consumable supplies as well as educational materials after class in a secure location Assists Alvin College in the marketing of the Clinical Medical Assisting Program Analyzes, reports and updates the CEWD Director of Health Programs on the outcome of course learning objectives and overall course progress Assists in the resolution of student issues in the courses being taught Other related duties may be assigned WORK ENVIRONMENT The incumbent typically works in an office environment and uses a computer, telephone and other office equipment as needed to perform duties. The noise level in the work environment is typical of that of an office. Incumbent may encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to twenty (20) pounds. QUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED Must hold a current medical assistant certification or State of Texas nursing license Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Medical Assistant or as a Licensed or Registered Nurse Experience in phlebotomy, immunizations, venipuncture injections, wound care, GYN procedures, direct patient care procedures and vital signs Must have current, valid Driver's License Must have a current, negative Tuberculosis (TB) test result KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Basic proficiency in online tools such as Blackboard Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, co-workers, and supervisor Ability to establish and maintain detailed classroom records and reports relating to course instruction. Have the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching thus enabling students to reach to the program's learning outcomes The instructor will frequently perform autonomously and must be self-motivated Will be required to proceed with independent actions with mutually established guidelines and minimal supervision from the CEWD Director of Health Programs Must be flexible with the ability to work days, nights, and/or weekends with the understanding that available hours will be based on the needs of the program not to exceed 19 hours per week Must be flexible and understands a minimum number of hours is not guaranteed and that classes may be cancelled and/or rescheduled with minimal notice due to student need, student enrollment and/or program needs Ability to travel to work related locations using personal vehicle (travel reimbursement may be provided) PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Current Basic Life Support Instructor Certification through the American Heart Association Associate degree in Health and/or Medical field from an accredited post-secondary institution Two (2) years of previous teaching experience, preferably at an accredited post-secondary institution Clinical experience in supervising students Proficiency in dosage calculations Bilingual English/Spanish Welcome to Alvin, Texas!
