Fairbanks Morse Defense is currently offering: $5,000 sign-on bonus for all newly hired Controls Specialists $5,000 retention bonus after completing 12 months of full-time employment Summary The Controls Specialist (CS) is responsible for installation, commissioning, scheduled, and emergency service on products serviced by Fairbanks Morse Defense, commensurate with appropriate certification. Must establish and maintain excellent rapport with customers, co-workers, and sales representatives. Maintain continuous communication with Regional Offices and direct manager. Must be able to obtain basic safety clearance. Position schedule: Monday-Friday, no nights or weekends. Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesRole Conduct installation, testing, and troubleshooting of control systems on FMD engine lines Use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals Diagnose problems and develop solutions for qualified engines Work independently on qualified engines Occasionally assigned to shop duties (machining, part inspections, assembly, testing, warehouse work) Technical Stay current on Engineering Change Orders, Field Service Change Notices, Service Information Letters Document work in Service Reports and write Condition Found Reports Safety Operate safely according to published safety guidelines Wear appropriate PPE per company policies Report all work-related accidents or injuries immediately Complete annual safety training as scheduled Administration Provide accurate and timely reporting (timecards, expenses, mileage, project closures) Obtain and maintain certification based on internal Service Progression Requirements Provide estimated time of arrival to customers when applicable Maintain company property (vehicle, credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop) Customer Satisfaction Communicate effectively with internal and external customers Complete and provide maintenance documentation upon assignment completion Strive for "first time fix" on all assignments Maintain customer satisfaction rates per company guidelines Performance Maximize productivity by combining service opportunities Complete work efficiently and on schedule Maintain productive utilization rate per company guidelines Follow company dress code and safety regulations Adhere to escalation processes and procedures Communicate effectively at all levels within the organization Serve as a role model and lead by example Conduct yourself with professionalism and high-quality service delivery Manage stressful customer situations with diplomacy Perform all other duties as assigned Qualifications and Educational RequirementsEducation and Experience High School Diploma or GED required Prior FMD Associate Controls Specialist experience preferred One of the following required: Associate Degree in Automotive, Diesel, or Power Generation Technology + 4 years' experience in related field (2 years in electrical/motion controls), or 4 years' experience in related field (3 years in electrical/motion controls) Technical Skills Knowledge of four-stroke engine operating theory (strongly preferred) Understanding of electrical systems and associated hazards (required) Basic understanding of gas compression and related hazards (preferred) Proficiency in electrical test equipment: multimeters, pressure calibrators, signal generators, process meters Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical line diagrams and blueprints Diagnose and repair electrical problems Working knowledge of pneumatic, PLC, and electronic engine controls, including: Electrical circuit diagnosis: VDC, 12VDC, 24VDC, 125VDC, 120VAC, 240VAC, 480VAC, 3 phases Allen Bradley PLC (RSLogix 500 and 5000) or equivalent HMI programming (PanelBuilder 32, FactoryTalk View ME) or equivalent Automation system diagnosis and troubleshooting End devices: RTDs, Thermocouples, 4-20mA sensors, Relays/Solenoids, Magnetic pickups, Hall Effect proximity sensors Other Skills & Requirements Experience with standby generators and engine operation/maintenance Strong organizational and planning skills Excellent written and verbal communication in English Proficiency in Microsoft Office Strong mechanical aptitude Valid driver's license and eligibility for company credit card Travel up to 10% for training purposes Must hold or obtain U.S. Passport within 3 months of hire Must meet NOFORN requirements for access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (proof of U.S. Citizenship required) Physical Requirements Stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle tools or components Reach with hands/arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl Talk, hear, and smell Sit and climb/balance frequently Vision: close, distant, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus Lift at least 35 pounds regularly Additional Information Job description indicates tasks and work difficulty; supervisor may assign duties as needed Ability to perform all essential duties (with or without reasonable accommodation) required Must demonstrate commitment to customer service and teamwork Join the Team If you're ready to take on a hands-on, high-impact role supporting mission-critical defense systems - and earn up to $10,000 in total bonuses - we invite you to apply and grow your career with Fairbanks Morse Defense.
