Title: Badger Rock Neighborhood Center Manager Reports To: Co-Executive Director Location: Badger Rock Neighborhood Center 517 E Badger Rd (must live in the Madison area by date of hire) Position Type: 20 hours per week or .5% FTE /Non-Exempt with the potential for FT Employment. About Badger Rock Programs Rooted seeks qualified applicants for the position of Badger Rock Neighborhood Center (BRNC) Manager, which serves the broader Badger Rock community, including the Moorland-Rimrock, Indian Springs, Nob Hill, Highland Manor and Southdale neighborhoods, and residents of South Madison. Badger Rock programming includes: Badger Rock Neighborhood Center Badger Rock Neighborhood Center hosts a wide variety of programs, including monthly CommUnity Dinners, a Pop-up Co-op Market and Farmstand, community gardens, neighborhood-driven programming and much more! Badger Rock Urban Farm Badger Rock Urban Farm is a 2-acre farm at the Badger Rock Neighborhood Center on the South Side of Madison. The farm features vegetables, fruit trees and native perennial food crops, chickens, honeybees, rain gardens, a heated greenhouse, and two hoop houses. The farm provides opportunities for garden- and food-based education to people of all ages and serves as a space for addressing healthy food access issues in our community through our weekly farmstand and community garden program. The farm works in close partnership with Badger Rock Middle School and provides some programming to Lori Mann Carey Elementary School, located on site, as well as many other community organizations in Madison. Position Overview The BRNC Manager will provide administrative and building operations support for the Badger Rock Neighborhood Center. Specific Duties and Responsibilities Provide administrative and business operations support to Neighborhood Center staff and users, including answering phone calls and responding to emails Manage room reservation requests and space allocation; update Neighborhood Center electronic calendar Assist with room set-up for meetings and programs Assist with planning and implementing monthly Community Dinners and heritage month series r and pop-up Community Markets/dinners during the summer Maintain the café/reception area, kitchen, and other areas of the building in a neat and orderly manner Manage food pantry and work with volunteers and youth employees to administer Assist with volunteer management Assist with development and management of a Community Advisory Council, including identifying community programming needs and program development Assist organization's communications staff with electronic newsletter and social media, as directed Ensure meaningful neighborhood resident engagement by fostering relationships with residents, users, and partners Assist with grant reporting as needed Other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Engaged in community-related issues with a strong desire to promote and advance the aims of the organization. Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds, including children, the elderly, and people of diverse cultures Strong listening skills, writing skills, and ability to work with different communication styles Strong organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.), email, and other technology Ability to lift 20 to 30 lbs. easily and regularly High school diploma or GED. Some college preferred. Or, any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Safe-Serv certification (or willingness to pursue certification at Rooted's expense) Experience supervising employees, trainees, interns and/or volunteers. Commitment to mission and values of Rooted, including social justice and racial equity. Experience working with non-profit organizations is a plus. Interest and knowledge of urban farming or gardening a plus. Additional Information/Requirements Must have access to reliable transportation and provide a copy of a valid driver's license. Willingness and ability to work some weekend and evening hours. An ability to speak multiple languages is considered a plus and increases salary by 3%.
