The full-time Program Specialist 3 in the Military and Veteran Programs has organization-wide program responsibility. This position is the subject matter expert and certificates in Chapter 30, Chapter 31, Chapter 35, Tuition Assistance, and MYCAA. The Program Specialist 3 supports the Director of Military and Veteran Programs by coordinating all aspects of work related to Chapter 30, Chapter 31, Chapter 35, Tuition Assistance, and MYCAA. The Program Specialist 3 provides assistance and specialized consultation to program participants, staff, and outside entities, and recommends resolution for complex problems and issues related to the program. The Program Specialist 3 assesses program participants' needs and develops specialized services and training unique to the program that are responsive to the needs of participants. Essential FunctionsMeet with students in person or via telephone, email, or written letters to provide assistance regarding the process and procedures, and general entry and admissions information. Address questions regarding their Student Benefits Files and make referrals to appropriate college or community resources when appropriate. Certify and maintain veteran benefits in the Enrollment Manager. Assist in planning, complementing, and evaluating institutional policies related to MVP; promote the program on campus and with outside organizations; represent the MVP at meetings. Train Military & Veteran Program staff on certifying procedures and file maintenance, in accordance with VA guidelines. Monitor student progress and report, as required, students who have been terminated during the current quarter due to unsatisfactory progress. Provide information on how to apply for veterans' benefits or assist veterans with the process. Provide information about programs, requirements, registration, and financial aid. Understand the process for military training documentation for the purpose of transferring credit, using the ACE guidelines. Advise students, staff, program participants, and/or the public regarding program content, policies and activities and recommend alternative courses of action. Make public presentations related to services at the college as requested. Provide information to students on how to: apply for transfer credit or graduation; file a grade appeal; and other general college procedures. Provide and apply an hourly/daily work schedule for students and staff servicing in the MVP. Attend meetings, training sessions, and/or conferences as required, either in person, by ITV, or conference phone. Advise students and consult with departments and other institutions about academic programs, degree updates or changes, and transfer policies and procedures. High proficiency in the use of ctcLink, word processing, Excel, and database software. Maintain and update orientation sessions for new veteran students. Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required. QualificationsMinimum Qualifications High School Graduate or equivalent Five years of experience providing assistance to customers regarding inquiries, complaints and problems Knowledge of military education and military transcripts. Preferred Qualifications Excellent customer service skills Bachelor's degree in education, business, human services, or related field Knowledge of military education benefits such as Tuition Assistance, My Career Advancement Account, etc. Successful applicant will Demonstrate proficient computer skills and use of software/programs such as Microsoft Word. Work independently and as a member of a collaborative team with diverse students, faculty, staff and community members. Plan, prioritize and organize assigned work to meet deadlines and demands of workload. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Function as a team player. Work effectively with individuals representing a wide range of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, life experiences and abilities. Only candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered. This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours a week, with a salary range of $56,880 - $76,608annually. All classified positions will start their salary at Step A. When you have completed six months of probation, you will receive a 5 percent pay increase. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA) Union.
