The Preventive Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the fleet equipment. Equipment includes but is not limited to wheel loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, man lifts, and grinders. The Mechanic should have demonstrable work practices with safety as the number one goal. You will perform appropriate preventive maintenance on equipment and necessary repairs to keep machines up and running daily. Reports To Shop Manager Essential Job Duties: Inspect and perform preventive maintenance on a variety of heavy vehicles, equipment, machinery, and facilities Perform services, diagnostics, and parts replacement for company fleet Aid in the repair and adjustments or replacements on a variety of components and systems such as tires, hoses, and electrical systems Service conveyers and various sorting equipment Complete and maintain records of servicing operations such as work orders and daily status reports Performs other duties as assigned Scope of Responsibility: This role is an individual contributor responsible for performing preventive maintenance and repairs on company fleet equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient daily operations. The Preventive Maintenance Mechanic works independently and as part of a team to inspect, service, diagnose, and repair equipment, exercising sound judgment in identifying maintenance needs and safety concerns. Decisions and actions directly impact equipment uptime, operational continuity, and workplace safety. Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Work in a team environment Full-time position with overtime opportunities Must have own tools (large impact tools will be provided) Able and willing to maintain a clean work environment Ability to work in all weather conditions Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity Education & Experience: Waste industry experience, a plus Completion of college or vocational or technical training, a plus Experience with routine maintenance operations is required A valid CDL driver license is a plus Must be 21 years of age, or older Physical Demands & Work Environment: Handling heavy tools and parts, sometimes lifting up to 70 pounds. Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and working in awkward positions. Fine motor skills for handling small parts and tools. Typically work in garages or workshops, which may be noisy, have unpleasant odors, a limited ventilation. Exposure to chemicals, oils, and other hazardous substances. Often required to wear protective gear, such as gloves and safety glasses. May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
