Your Key Responsibilities: Enforcing immigration, customs, and agricultural regulations. Facilitating legitimate travel and trade. Conducting thorough inspections of individuals and vehicles. Determining the admissibility of people entering the U.S. Preventing illegal border crossings and the smuggling of prohibited items. Compensation and Recruitment Incentives: Enjoy a competitive salary and excellent benefits! Recruitment Incentives: Newly appointed Officers may earn up to $15,000 annually in additional incentives, depending on assignment location, in exchange for a three-year service commitment. Locations eligible for incentives include states like Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New York, North Dakota, Vermont, and Washington. The annual base salary for newly appointed officers ranges from $40,332 to $109,952, depending on qualifications and experience. Candidates may also receive locality pay, and fully trained Officers have the potential to earn extra overtime pay, up to $45,000 per year. This position is part of a career ladder that allows for advancements from GS-5 to GS-12 based on performance and experience. Qualifications: To qualify for GS-5: Three years of full-time experience demonstrating strong communication skills and the ability to learn and apply knowledge effectively. A bachelor's degree or a full four-year course of study in any major from an accredited institution. A combination of relevant experience and education may also qualify you. To qualify for GS-7: One year of specialized experience at the GS-5 level involving enforcement protocols and inspections. A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement or one year of graduate-level education in a related field. A combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education may also be acceptable. Note: Candidates with prior law enforcement or military law enforcement experience might qualify for GS-9 level positions. Additional Requirements: Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship is required. Residency: Applicants must have resided in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years. Age Restriction: Candidates must be referred for selection before turning 40; exceptions exist for veterans and previous federal law enforcement personnel. Formal Training: Selected candidates will participate in a two-week paid pre-academy orientation followed by a comprehensive 101-day training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA.
