The Associate Chief of Clinical Operations will oversee, mentor, and enhance the performance of Clinical Directors in the assigned market. This role holds responsibility for center performance objectives, profit and loss, growth, and fostering a positive culture. While managing clinical outcomes across the market, a portion of the time will be dedicated to direct patient care as a Primary Care Physician (PCP) or other clinical duties. The rest of the time will focus on leadership responsibilities, ensuring clinical and operational alignment and building a cohesive organizational culture. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Oversee clinical outcomes and daily management of Medical Directors across multiple centers in the assigned market, maintaining a regular presence in those centers under the guidance of the Regional President. Ensure effective clinical operations and that market earnings meet or exceed expectations. Mentor and support Medical Directors to achieve excellent clinical outcomes. Facilitate the development of PCPs, NPs, and Medical Directors through practice shadowing, performance conversations, and execution of leadership development initiatives. Promote a physician culture aligned with ChenMed's core model, values, and service standards. Assist with training new practitioners in the assigned centers. Engage in recruiting and interviewing PCP and specialist candidates. Collaborate with Clinical Centers of Excellence (COE) and Talent Acquisition to enhance clinical talent, from recruitment to mentorship, modeling exceptional clinical leadership. Establish and nurture successful relationships with payers, specialists, the community, and hospitals, including enhancing local social media engagement. Monitor overall market culture and respond swiftly to workplace issues. Review and approve center-level referrals and serve as backup for market referral and utilization authorizations. Additional responsibilities may include: Support the Regional President with quality and performance improvement initiatives. Oversee monthly scorecard reviews and collaborate with Clinical Leadership for quarterly clinical metric analysis. Provide training to other ChenMed entities as necessary. Develop strong relationships with providers and key market stakeholders. Apply understanding of local market dynamics to drive clinical initiatives. Build credibility and trust among peers to enhance relationships. Assist in implementing cost reduction strategies and market clinical initiatives. Deliver excellent clinical outcomes and services as a PCP (20% of time). Perform other duties as assigned by management. Management of population risk or complex chronic disease care. A natural mentor to peers in the medical field. Has additional skills such as: Analytical capabilities. Ability to foster relationships with external organizations. Conflict resolution skills. Proficient use of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Comfort with electronic medical records (EMR) and competent keyboarding ability. Willingness to travel locally, regionally, and nationally up to 30% of the time. Fluency in spoken and written English. This role requires independent judgment and decision-making. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA: MD or DO in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Geriatrics, or a similar specialty is required. A minimum of 3 years clinical experience is required; 5 years is preferred. Preferably two (2) years of previous experience as Medical Director or in a similar role with a Medicare or Medicaid patient population. Board eligibility is required; board certification in relevant specialties is preferred. Must hold an active medical license in the state of employment. Demonstrated high-performance physician with a solid record of clinical leadership. Completion of internal physician training and partnership attainment is necessary. Experience in managing population risk or complex chronic disease care is required. Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams on quality improvement and healthcare leadership initiatives is advantageous. Preferred to be an established high-performing PCP partner and/or Medical Director in the ChenMed model with a proven ability to manage a patient panel of over 400 with excellent clinical and customer service outcomes. If a specialist, proven leadership within the specialty with successful delivery of primary care is preferred.
