Position Summary The AIM Center is seeking an experienced and proactive Human Resources Manager to support and strengthen our people operations. Reporting to the Chief of People & Infrastructure, this role is responsible for executing and continuously improving core HR functions, ensuring compliance with employment laws, and implementing HR best practices that align with AIM's mission and strategic priorities. This position is designed for a trained HR professional who can "hit the ground running," bring structure and consistency to HR operations, and serve as a trusted partner across the organization. The HR Manager will operate independently and collaboratively, supporting staff and leadership while helping build a strong, compliant, and mission-aligned workplace culture. About The AIM Center Inc. AIM Center offers employment, education, housing, socialization, and wellness opportunities for adults living with serious mental illness. We are non-medical and non-clinical; however, we work with other mental health professionals to provide comprehensive mental health services.Using the Clubhouse model of psychosocial rehabilitation, AIM Center empowers participants, our members, to develop relationships and create individualized plans for recovery while working side-by-side with other members and staff to accomplish the work of the Clubhouse.AIM Center has been helping adults in the Chattanooga community lead fulfilling and productive lives while successfully managing their mental health since 1989. Membership is open to people ages 18 and older diagnosed with serious mental illness. Recovery is a lifelong process and the philosophy of our Clubhouse is "Once a Member, Always a Member."We are a private, non-profit organization supported through foundations, public and private grants and donations. Our Clubhouse is also a TennCare provider. AIM Center is the only psychosocial rehabilitation facility accredited by Clubhouse International and licensed by the State of Tennessee. The HR Manager will operate independently and collaboratively, supporting staff and leadership while helping build a strong, compliant, and mission-aligned workplace culture. Key ResponsibilitiesHR Operations & Compliance Administer and manage day-to-day HR operations including onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, employee records, and HRIS management. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and nonprofit regulatory requirements. Maintain and update employee handbook, policies, and procedures to reflect current best practices and legal standards. Support audits, reporting, and documentation requirements. Talent Management & Recruitment Lead full-cycle recruitment efforts including job postings, screening, interviewing coordination, and offer preparation. Partner with hiring managers to ensure equitable, consistent, and efficient hiring practices. Oversee onboarding processes to ensure new hires are successfully integrated into the organization. Employee Relations & Engagement Serve as a resource to employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and best practices. Support performance management processes including annual reviews, goal setting, and performance improvement plans. Assist in resolving employee relations matters with professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment. Benefits & Compensation Administration Coordinate benefits enrollment and serve as liaison with benefits providers. Support compensation benchmarking and ensure pay practices align with organizational philosophy and nonprofit standards. Assist in payroll coordination and related HR documentation. Process Improvement & Best Practices Evaluate existing HR processes and implement improvements aligned with HR best practices. Develop systems and tools that enhance efficiency, documentation, and organizational effectiveness. Stay current on HR trends, employment law updates, and nonprofit sector practices. Generalist Duties Support a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive Clubhouse environment. Advocate for member rights and meaningful participation in operations. Support fidelity to Clubhouse International Standards and AIM Center policies. Encourage member participation in employment programs (TE, SE, IE). Serve as Transitional Employment Job Coach/Placement Manager as assigned. Transport Clubhouse members as needed (training provided). Participate in staff rotation coverage, socials, employment dinners, holidays, and special events. Collaborate with members on social and recreational activities. Participate in continuous quality improvement and professional development. Other duties as assigned. QualificationsRequired Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field. Minimum of 3+ years of progressive HR experience. Demonstrated knowledge of HR best practices and employment law compliance. Proven ability to manage HR functions independently and implement structured processes. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must pass a pre-employment background check. Valid Tennessee driver's license required. Ability to obtain an F-Endorsement within 14 days (Tennessee residents only), with a three-year clean Motor Vehicle Record and no DUI/DWI. Reliable transportation and proof of automobile liability insurance required. First Aid and CPR certification required, or willingness to obtain certification within required timeframe. Must successfully complete all required training, including online Relias learning modules. Preferred Master's degree in Human Resources or related field. Experience working in a nonprofit organization. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or active membership in SHRM or equivalent professional organization. Experience with HRIS systems and benefits administration. The HR Manager is expected to operate with a high level of professionalism, accountability, and responsiveness.
