itD is seeking an Environmental Engineer (Compliance Specialist IV) to lead environmental compliance initiatives supporting research and development operations across multiple California facilities. This role ensures compliance with environmental regulations while supporting a fast-paced, high-tech R&D environment. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in environmental compliance, regulatory reporting, and hazardous materials management, along with a proven track record of maintaining compliance across air, water, waste, and hazardous materials programs. The Environmental Engineer will partner cross-functionally with health and safety teams, laboratory personnel, and facilities teams to evaluate operational changes, support regulatory reporting, and ensure environmental obligations are met across multiple sites. Location: Onsite - Sunnyvale, CA (5 days per week). Travel required between Sunnyvale, Fremont, Newark, and Burlingame locations. Pay Rate: $54-$61 per hour, depending on experience. Responsibilities Lead environmental compliance activities across California facilities, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Conduct routine hazardous waste inspections, coordinate waste removal, and manage RCRA waste manifests. Prepare and submit environmental reports including wastewater discharge monitoring and monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance reports. Maintain regulatory reporting data including HMBP and EPCRA inventories. Evaluate facilities for regulatory obligations such as SPCC requirements, air permits, stormwater compliance, and wastewater permits. Provide incident response support and assist with environmental emergency preparedness and response activities. Partner with health and safety teams, lab personnel, and facilities teams to assess new tools, processes, and equipment for environmental compliance impacts. Internal Responsibilities Attend regular internal practice community meetings. Collaborate with your itD practice team on industry thought leadership. Complete client case studies and learning material (blogs, media material). Build out material to contribute to the Digital Transformation practice. Attend internal itD networking events (in person and virtual). Work with leadership on career fast-track opportunities. Required Qualifications and Skills 5+ years of experience in environmental compliance assurance, including experience within California regulatory frameworks. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations including hazardous materials management, hazardous waste, air permitting, stormwater, universal waste, and industrial wastewater. Experience supporting hazardous materials storage, chemical management, and waste disposal programs. Experience preparing environmental regulatory reports and compliance documentation. Ability to support multiple environmental programs and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to support compliance initiatives. Preferred Qualifications and Skills Experience working in research and development or high-tech operational environments. Experience using environmental management systems such as Enablon. Previous experience supporting environmental compliance across multiple sites or facilities. Education Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Studies, or a related field required.
