PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Lead Claims Specialist is accountable for managing the most intricate and high-stakes commercial liability claims. This role focuses on delivering exceptional service to our policyholders while ensuring claims are resolved fairly and efficiently according to company standards and best practices. You will bring a sense of urgency and expert insurance knowledge to navigate the complexities of the legal system supported by our legal counsel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES As the Lead Claims Specialist, you will: Manage all aspects of complex claims inventory through to successful resolution. Communicate effectively with policyholders, agents, attorneys, and witnesses to provide top-notch customer service. Conduct timely investigations to evaluate claims exposure and collaborate with experts as needed. Utilize various resolution strategies (e.g., mediation, negotiation) to achieve outstanding results. Adhere to state regulations and internal claims policies throughout the claims management process. Guide defense counsel during litigation, while overseeing legal costs and fees. Develop and implement action plans for analyzing new and transferred losses. Additional Responsibilities: Provide exceptional customer service consistently. Collaborate with colleagues from different departments for process improvement discussions. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert to facilitate knowledge sharing with stakeholders. Recommend process enhancements and adopt best practices within the industry. Ensure accurate data management in compliance with regulatory reporting requirements. Deliver training and knowledge transfer to team members. Continuously enhance your technical skills through ongoing education and insights into current case law. Act as a mentor to junior team members, fostering their professional development. Directly manage litigation procedures, strategizing with defense attorneys and negotiating settlements, including participation in depositions and hearings. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES IN COMMERCIAL LIABILITY/PROPERTY: Handle highly complex claims across multiple jurisdictions. Escalate claim summaries with strategic recommendations for executive approval. Quickly gather relevant information to conduct thorough investigations. Build effective working relationships with opposing counsel and claimants. Participate in depositions, hearings, and settlement discussions actively. Prioritize early resolution strategies for all claims. Draft coverage letters and policy correspondence with minimal guidance. Analyze policy language and prepare documentation with limited oversight. Offer insights to underwriters based on inspections and documented damages. Deepen your understanding of reinsurance frameworks. Stay updated on Department of Insurance regulations and requirements. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This role does not include formal supervisory duties but involves mentoring and guiding claim examiners. You will also assist in problem-solving and skill development of team members, cultivating adherence to departmental policies and procedures. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred (or equivalent education and experience). 10+ years of related claims experience is required. At least 10 years of experience specifically in complex liability claims is essential. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Commercial Liability & Commercial Property: Various state adjuster licenses will be needed, with provisions to obtain licenses within a specific timeframe post-hire. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Deep expertise in managing intricate claims, applying technical knowledge, and fostering positive relationships to achieve fair resolutions. Strong understanding of relevant laws, excellent communication abilities, dependable organizational skills, and attention to detail are vital. Ability to interpret and analyze legal documents, financial statements, and technical journals. Proficient in drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Skilled in responding to inquiries or complaints from customers and stakeholders. Capable of presenting information effectively to groups and stakeholders. Strong problem definition and data analysis capabilities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position primarily involves an office environment, with standard physical demands of sitting, standing, walking, and using office equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT This role is based in an office setting, engaging regularly with computer and standard office technology. We are currently not offering employment sponsorship for this opportunity. The current salary range for this position is: $90,559.93 - $152,723.07 This range does not include benefits and potential bonuses.
