Job Description

The Head of Medical Publications in the CNS therapeutic area plays a crucial role in shaping and implementing a comprehensive publication strategy. This leader will facilitate the effective sharing of vital scientific data through various formats, including congress abstracts, posters, and peer-reviewed manuscripts. As the leader of the CNS Medical Communications team, you will collaborate with Clinical Development, Global Integrated Evidence & Innovation (GIE&I), Medical Strategy, Core Content, and external partners. Your contributions will significantly further Otsuka's mission of delivering high-quality, evidence-based solutions that enhance patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Publications Strategy and Execution: Drive the execution of publication plans for CNS assets, aligning them with medical and communication goals throughout the product lifecycle. Work closely with Medical Communications and cross-functional teams to set timelines and strategies for successful data dissemination. Oversee the preparation of publication materials, ensuring scientific accuracy and compliance with Good Publication Practices (GPP) and company SOPs. Incorporate publication insights into larger scientific communication initiatives, ensuring uniformity across various medical channels. Possibly supervise a team or additional direct reports as required. Vendor & Budget Management: Build and maintain relationships with publication vendors and medical writing partners to ensure timely and economical deliverables. Oversee the operational aspects of external agencies while guaranteeing scientific quality and adherence to compliance standards. Manage publication budgets, including forecasting and monitoring expenditures. Promote continuous improvements for efficiency across publication workflows. Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with various teams to ensure data readiness and the timely publication of critical clinical results. Act as a subject matter expert on publications, providing guidance to stakeholders and vendors. Guarantee consistent messaging across medical communications and external outreach in collaboration with Field Medical and Core Content leads. Contribute to an integrated medical communication strategy to enhance effective data dissemination. Explore technology and AI solutions to improve workflow efficiency. Compliance & Quality Oversight: Ensure all publication activities comply with internal SOPs and regulatory standards. Collaborate with Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance teams to maintain publication governance and uphold ethical practices. Assist in readiness for audits and ensure proper documentation is maintained. Qualifications: An advanced scientific or medical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent) is required. 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, Communications, or Publications within the pharmaceuticals or biotechnology sectors. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience leading publication strategies on a global or regional scale, ideally within CNS or related fields. Demonstrated experience overseeing vendors and medical writing collaborations with budget management. Strong understanding of Good Publication Practices and industry benchmarks. Outstanding project management and organizational capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a keen attention to detail. Financial acumen and experience managing publication budgets. Strategic mindset with a focus on operational excellence. Experience in team leadership is advantageous. Maximum salary: $278,875, plus incentive opportunities. Actual pay may vary based on experience and internal comparisons.
