POSITION SUMMARY Assigned under general supervision of the Maintenance Engineering Manager to oversee utilities and refrigeration mechanics on repairs through PM and operation of refrigeration equipment in Owasso plant. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: Supervise the three shifts within the refrigeration department in Owasso. Provide Owasso plant with technical refrigeration expertise. Create and maintain technical documentation on Owasso's refrigeration systems. Provide process windows for operating refrigeration equipment, and audit in-person through daily pictures to ensure compliance within the Owasso plant. Supervise the PSM Coordinator in the upkeep of the PSM Program. Supervise the installation of new refrigeration equipment into existing systems. Ensure new Installs follow applicable safety, PSM, and sanitation guidelines. Ensure department personnel are trained in properly conducting the scheduled PMs. Train Owasso team to diagnose and repair boilers and refrigeration/systems using schematics and visual observations. Ensure that department personnel follow proper safety and sanitary procedures and plant wide GMPs. Cultivate interdepartmental communication. Ensure department personnel carry out repairs safely and efficiently. Schedule contractors for quotes and repairs and be able to communicate repair requirements to management and production. Train the Owasso refrigeration team to use a hand-held temperature probe to conduct temperature checks as needed. Train Owasso refrigeration team to visually inspect engine room equipment for proper operation within the specified range and ensure compliance. Train refrigeration staff to inspect high/low-pressure boilers daily and ensure compliance. Ensure department personnel properly record readings during daily rounds. Conduct internal audits and participate in corporate and outside-agency audits. Conduct PSM audits with the PSM Coordinator and ensure abatement of noncompliance items. Train Owasso refrigeration staff to complete scheduled PMs on boilers and refrigeration equipment and audit PM's. Keep accurate records of meetings and training. Participate/support the RMP (Risk Management Process) and assist in the development of the system and operational standards and corrective actions. Supervise contractor safety compliance program. Plan and incorporate a thorough Preventative Measurement Plan and assist Maintenance Manager in selecting personnel in further training and certifications within the refrigeration field. Direct, inspect, and coordinate with the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler for building Preventative Maintenance and repairs throughout the plant including all refrigeration, grounds, doors, lights, Dock-Locks, etc. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise hourly employees in the PSM/Refrigeration department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Experience) 5 + years of experience in ammonia refrigeration system. Level 1 RETA, Level 2 RETA, and Level 3 RETA Certifications or equivalent training and have qualified in Hazmat/Confined space training. Must have Boiler and PSM Certifications. Must have experience dealing with Ammonia/Refrigeration, Hazardous Materials, and PSM Ability to maintain concentration while performing tasks over period of time. Ability to coordinate actions in relation to others' actions. Know how to collect information and identify essential information. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with others. Ability to locate and diagnose complex refrigeration equipment failures. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. The ability to read, write, and to communicate in Spanish would be a plus. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee maybe required to lift heavy equipment and materials from 70 pounds or more (unassisted), such as compressors, condensers, refrigerant cylinders, and tools; climbing ladders and working at heights to access and maintain refrigeration systems. The employee will constantly be on feet, walking around the facility, and standing for extended periods during maintenance and repairs which may at times be slippery due to marinades, water, and other liquids associated with the production process. The employee will need to bend, stoop, and crouch to access equipment and work on low-lying components. Due to noise levels in the work environment, the use of hearing protection is required. Precise vision is required for this position to perform detailed visual inspections and repairs of equipment and machinery, and to identify electrical color codes or safety labels. The employee will be working in a climate-controlled environment of -40°F to -45°F. The employee may be exposed to strong odors such as raw meat and marinades from seasoned meat. Wearing proper PPE such as gloves, goggles, and possibly refrigeration suits to ensure safety. Handling ammonia systems may require the use of appropriate protective gear to prevent exposure to this potentially hazardous substance. While in the production area, employee is required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include hair and beard nets, rubber soled shoes, smocks, hearing protection and hard hats. 1st shift
