This position is a vital part of our Complex Claims Unit within the Hartford Global Specialty Claims Division. As a Specialist in Construction Defect Claims, you will manage a caseload of complex construction defect and property damage claims from start to finish. Your expertise will be critical in working with both primary and excess coverages, often dealing with intricate contractual analysis to determine indemnity, contribution obligations, and risk transfer opportunities. In this role, you will utilize your experience in handling litigated matters and managing defense counsel. While not required, experience with excess claims will be beneficial. Key Responsibilities: Oversee a caseload of both litigated and non-litigated construction defect claims under commercial general liability policies. Conduct thorough investigations and evaluate the information gathered. Make informed coverage determinations and communicate these effectively to insured parties and stakeholders. Set appropriate expense and indemnity reserves within prescribed authority levels and adjust them as needed. Present cases to management for reserve authorization exceeding established authority levels. Develop and implement resolution strategies to achieve optimal outcomes. Proactively manage litigation processes and counsel, including budgeting and bill reviews. Attend trials and mediations as necessary. Contribute to wider departmental goals through participation in audits, projects, and product development. Prepare detailed reports and present case developments to senior leadership. Partner with business teams to assess claim trends and patterns. Provide excellent customer service by addressing inquiries from agents and policyholders. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred; law degree is a plus or equivalent experience. Minimum of seven years in managing complex litigated construction defect and property damage claims. Familiarity with owner-controlled insurance policies and wrap policies is advantageous. Strong results-oriented focus with a disciplined approach. Exceptional analytical abilities and organizational skills. Superb oral and written communication skills. Strategic thinking and effective execution capabilities. Advanced negotiation and technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of coverage and tort laws. Comprehensive understanding of damage issues related to high-stakes construction defect and property damage claims. Strong analytical skills for assessing coverage and liability issues, time limits, and extra-contractual exposures. Ability to articulate thoughts clearly and influence others effectively. Superior interpersonal skills and the drive to exceed expectations. This role offers a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates living near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT, San Antonio, TX, Lake Mary, FL, Phoenix, AZ, Naperville, IL, Alpharetta, GA) are expected to work in the office three days per week (Tuesday through Thursday). Remote candidates will have the option to work from home but should be available to come into the office as needed. Compensation: The annualized base pay range for this position is $107,600 - $161,400. Actual pay may vary based on performance and experience. This range is part of our total rewards package, which includes potential bonuses, long-term incentives, and recognition rewards. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer that considers all qualified applicants regardless of sex, race, color, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, or age.
