Job Description

Join our vibrant and dedicated team as an Optometric Technician Specialist, where you will be essential in providing outstanding patient care alongside our doctors. Your role includes offering patient support, conducting pre-tests, managing post-exam responsibilities, performing specialty tests, and efficiently handling appointment scheduling to ensure a professional and welcoming environment for every patient. Conduct preliminary patient evaluations prior to their exams, including dilation, administering topicals and diagnostic medications, and utilizing advanced equipment such as the Optomap. Engage with patients through verbal interviews to collect vital medical information and understand the reasons for their visits, ensuring clear communication with the Optometrist. Accurately enter patient information into our Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. Assist Optometrists in delivering timely and effective patient care while closely adhering to the scheduled appointment times. Educate patients on prescribed medical care and treatment plans, arranging follow-up appointments as necessary. Discuss LASIK options with patients, identifying candidates by reviewing their information forms. Coordinate appointments with Ophthalmologists and other specialists, ensuring all necessary paperwork is completed. Maintain patient records in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies. Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications and treatment while liaising with the Optometrist as needed. Accurately code procedures for effective payment processing. Utilize diagnostic equipment (e.g., OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera) as required to assist in patient assessments. Effectively communicate with other medical offices regarding patient referrals and insurance matters. Support patient education initiatives as directed by the Optometrist. Document medical findings and interactions in Electronic Medical Records, and assist with clerical duties as necessary. Participate in practice meetings and projects to enhance team performance and collaboration. Improve the scheduling process by confirming appointments, reaching out to patients for recalls, and collaborating with management on outreach efforts. Follow up with patients who miss appointments or cancel to facilitate rescheduling. Conduct contact lens insertion and removal classes and manage inventory for trial lenses. Complete end-of-day responsibilities, including scheduling wrap-up and checklist tasks. Provide recommendations for enhancing quality, cost efficiency, and profitability within the practice. Take on additional duties as requested and as time permits. High School diploma or GED is required. Basic computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Office, Windows, and word processing software. Strong teamwork skills, showcasing the ability to prioritize collective success over individual achievement. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective engagement with colleagues and patients. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in evaluating patients for eye exams and administering medications pertinent to eye care. Knowledge of medical terminology related to eye treatments. Experience in maintaining patient records in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT) is a plus but not mandatory. Physical Demands: This position requires effective communication, operation of necessary equipment, and mobility throughout the office environment.
