A Day in the Life of the Senior Network Internet Design Engineer: The Senior Network Internet Design Engineer will design, configure, and optimize IP networks, including routers, switches, and links while ensuring robust security and efficient traffic management. This role encompasses managing infrastructure projects, implementing new technologies, and acting as a technical liaison for external network partnerships. Create, review, and document configurations for routers, switches, and links in accordance with established standards and plans. Analyze IP traffic and engineer traffic solutions; identify faults and propose effective resolutions. Evaluate and recommend new technologies, techniques, and products. Implement new product offerings and enhancements for improved service delivery. Optimize network security, route policies, traffic management, and hardware utilization. Oversee all aspects of new infrastructure implementations and upgrades. Engage in hands-on configuration and activation of network devices and links. Serve as the technical point-of-contact for external network relationships (BGP) with vendors, peers, and customers. Effectively manage tasks for field staff and vendors with a focus on execution and meeting deadlines. Provide ongoing IP Network Operational Support. Continuously monitor and analyze network performance metrics. Identify network challenges; conduct research and implement solutions. Thoroughly handle escalated issues from response engineering staff with a focus on resolution. Participate in 24x7 rotating on-call duties; occasional overnight work may be required. What You Bring to the Table: At least three years of technical experience in a production environment, such as an Internet service provider or telecommunications carrier. Proven experience in a customer-facing or customer-supporting role. Expertise in the design, configuration, and upgrade of network elements. In-depth experience with routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, RIP) and route-policy modifications. Solid understanding of capacity and traffic management in a WAN environment. Familiarity with network security practices and technologies. Proven ability to plan, track, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Capability to work independently and take initiative in problem-solving. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Hands-on experience with WAN routers, LAN and WAN switches, and various telecommunications devices. Effective understanding of WAN/LAN internetworking. Competency in user-level UNIX and PC skills for WAN circuit provisioning and troubleshooting. Strong grasp of routing and IP transport technologies. Knowledge of IP application protocols (SMTP, POP, FTP, HTTP, DNS, etc.). Understanding of LAN media, protocols, and switching (e.g., Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet). Experience with Spanning Tree Protocol. Experience in a DOCSIS cable environment is a plus. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Internet Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered. Base Salary: The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $165,000 annually, with opportunities for bonuses, benefits, and commission, if applicable. The stated range reflects the low and high end of the hiring spectrum, and actual compensation may vary based on relevant experience, skills, and capabilities.
