Transportation Project Engineer

Join our skilled and dynamic highway design team at RK&K! We are looking for experienced Project Engineers to lead transportation projects for VDOT and other public and private sector clients. As a Project Engineer, you will leverage your expertise as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) to shape the transportation infrastructure that connects our communities. Key Responsibilities Lead the design, analysis, and development of highway and roadway projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. Utilize industry-standard software such as MicroStation, GeoPak, OpenRoads Designer, and Civil 3D to create detailed highway design plans, alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and necessary documentation. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, designers, and project managers, to devise innovative and cost-effective solutions for complex transportation challenges. Demonstrate expertise in highway design standards to create safe and environmentally responsible designs for various types of roads and highways. Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and design calculations to support project proposals and submissions. Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to meet project requirements and secure necessary approvals. Mentor junior engineers and designers, guiding their professional growth. Conduct quality control reviews of design documents to ensure their accuracy and completeness. Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in highway design to enhance team capabilities and project outcomes. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited institution. Minimum of four years of experience in highway and roadway design focused on DOT projects. Current Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in civil engineering or the ability to obtain within six months of hire. Proficiency in design software such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and Civil 3D. Strong understanding of highway design standards, including MUTCD, VDOT, and AASHTO. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration. Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to high-quality design work. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in civil engineering.
