Thermal Hardware Design Engineer

Summary: Join our dynamic Thermal Hardware Team as a Thermal Hardware Design Engineer, where you will play a key role in thermal design and optimization for innovative hardware solutions. You will tackle complex heat transfer challenges in both subcomponents and entire hardware systems, utilizing strong thermal design principles combined with analytical tools. Your ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams will be vital in this role. Key Responsibilities: Collaborate with the Hardware Design team for effective thermal design from components to full systems, ensuring seamless product deployment in the Data Center Operations team. Create and implement test plans to evaluate thermal performance and efficiency of hardware, alongside thermal technology assessment. Simulate and analyze hardware cooling configurations quantitatively. Innovate and explore cutting-edge thermal cooling solutions tailored for large-scale hardware systems, balancing design, cost, power, and critical parameters. Develop analytical and numerical models using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools and other relevant simulation methods to analyze system thermodynamics and heat transfer. Lead engagements with external vendors including ODM and component suppliers on design, testing, and production processes. Produce and disseminate case studies and technical papers detailing thermal analysis and technologies. Establish thermal design/testing parameters and correlate design/test outcomes to validate predictions. Minimum Qualifications: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 6+ years of experience in thermal design for server/hardware or advanced packaging. Proficiency in computational thermal simulation software such as Flotherm or Icepak for optimizing cooling designs. Experience with lab equipment including data acquisition systems and environmental chambers for thermal validation. Expertise in designing and refining thermal cooling solutions such as custom heat sinks and fan speed control algorithms. Ability to create and interpret mechanical system schematics using 3D CAD tools. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in developing mathematical and computational models of industrial cooling systems using MATLAB or similar tools. Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and scripting in Python. Knowledge of data center cooling system designs. 6+ years of experience specific to advanced cooling solutions. Understanding of control systems for fans and pumps. M.S./Ph.D. in a relevant thermal discipline. Knowledge of custom thermal solutions such as heat sinks and Thermal Interface Materials (TIM). Proven record of delivering thermal programs from ideation to deployment. Understanding of manufacturing processes including Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
