In this role, you'll gain expertise in diverse areas including NESC, Structural Pole Modeling, Electrical Power Calculations, GIS design training, Field Data Collection, and Client Design Standards. Travel: This position supports remote work, but candidates must reside within commutable distance to Minneapolis, MN, to provide on-site assistance as needed. Selected candidates will participate in in-person meetings and assignments throughout the Minnesota service area as required. As a Distribution Engineer, You Can Expect To: Conduct design engineering for Leidos electric utility clients. Create work packages for OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects utilizing GIS and WMS systems such as DDS, GDT, GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and Maximo. Oversee scope, schedule, and budget for assigned tasks. Perform functional tasks, planning, and follow-up with customers. Analyze assigned work scope, ensuring adherence to schedules and client priorities. Implement continuous improvements to workflows enhancing efficiency and quality in client deliverables. Coordinate conflicting utilities and field design requirements, develop extensive design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in urban environments, and manage work permits, easements, and ROW applications. Be adaptable to both field and office settings: the role may involve local or regional visits to collect field data necessary for package development. Candidates must possess a valid US driver's license for on-site meetings and assignments as needed. Work from our Denver area office with a hybrid schedule. What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements): A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required. Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET accredited institution; relevant experience/certifications may substitute for a degree. Demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC). Experience with structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, protective device coordination, and electric demand and fault current calculations. Ability to provide reliable transportation for local or regional customer-related travel (reimbursed at IRS-approved rates). Exhibit strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. You Might Also Have Some Previous Experience With: Providing estimated costs, developing a BOM, and calculating the CIAC. Design tools such as Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, DDS. MicroStation for Electrical Distribution design. Work management software and job estimating software. CAD tools.
