Job Description

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing essential pharmaceutical care during night shifts. This role involves clinical and professional responsibilities in medication compounding and dispensing, ensuring patient safety and accuracy at every step. Key Responsibilities Timely entry and confirmation of medication orders using Meditech, avoiding duplications or errors. Responding to inquiries from pharmacy staff, nursing, and physicians by researching through Meditech and other resources. Utilizing Omni Server reports to resolve discrepancies efficiently. Reviewing physician orders for accuracy and completeness, clarifying with prescribers as needed and documenting interactions. Checking for duplicate medications, drug interactions, adverse reactions, and inappropriate orders. Ensuring dispensed medications match prescriber orders and operating pharmacy automation systems effectively. Performing safety checks including barcode scanning and visual inspections during first doses, cart fills, and automated dispensing cabinet restocking. Verifying and signing off on Unit Dose repackaging and completing annual IV Room competency within required timeframes. Preparing compounded sterile products with proper aseptic technique and documenting chemotherapy treatments. Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the IV room and completing all USP 797 documentation daily. Verifying narcotic counts after each withdrawal and accurately completing narcotic paperwork, promptly resolving discrepancies. Receiving controlled substances and documenting appropriately. Participating actively in selected committees and providing timely, comprehensive drug information to healthcare professionals and patients. Assisting in pharmacist hiring and precepting pharmacy students. Supporting clinical pharmacy coordination to improve drug therapy management. Completing all clinical activities and documentation daily, along with mandatory annual education requirements. Education Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy is required. Experience One year of hospital pharmacy experience or internship is preferred. Licensure and Certification Current pharmacist license or ability to obtain licensure within 90 days is required. Active membership in pharmacy organizations is encouraged. Mental and Physical Requirements This position requires considerable mental concentration for sustained periods and physical activities including standing, walking, sitting, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Working Conditions Standard pharmacy environment with exposure to printer, automation, and telephone noise. The role involves meeting difficult deadlines and handling sensitive situations with professionalism.
