Position Overview As a USP Staff Software Engineer, you will design and deliver solutions that help our healthcare system work more efficiently andeffectively-helpingmillions of people receive their prescription medications each year.You'llwork on small, cross-functional, highly collaborative teams andoperateas a senior technical leader who turns product intent into clear, actionable engineering work. This role plays a critical part in bridging product strategy and technical execution. You will help break down complex product requirements into scalable technical solutions, consult across multiple engineering teams, and ensure delivery aligns with approved USP architectures and platform standards. The role has a strong emphasis onautomationand modern cloud-native development, helping advance USP's platform capabilities while improving engineering effectiveness and long-term system health. WhatYou'llDo Translate product requirements into technical execution Partner closely with Product, Design, and Engineering leaders todecompose product requirementsinto well-defined technical work, including epics, features, service boundaries, APIs, data models, and non-functional requirements. Lead technical discovery efforts toidentifydependencies, risks, and tradeoffs early, producing clear plans that improve delivery predictability. Create andmaintaintechnical artifacts such as design documents, RFCs, integration contracts, and architectural diagrams that enable alignment and execution across teams. Collaborate and consult across engineering teams Act as atechnical consultant and advisoracross USP and partner engineering teams, helping drive consistency in architecture, APIs, event contracts, and shared platform approaches. Facilitate alignment with platform, security, and architecture stakeholders, helping teams converge on sound technical decisions. Influence outcomes throughstrong communication, technical credibility, and pragmatic problem-solving rather than formal authority. Build solution technologies aligned to USP architectures Utilize a representative modern tech stack-including Node.js, TypeScript, React,GraphQL(Apollo), Azure Cloud Services, event-driven architectures and messaging platforms, and robust CI/CD and cloud-native tooling-to design, develop, and deploy scalable solutions that meet USP's architectural standards. Ensure all solution technologies are built with scalability, reliability, and maintainability in mind,leveragingcloud-nativeand AIbest practices and event-driven patterns. Apply modern CI/CD processes to streamline development and deployment,maintainingalignment with USP platformstandardsandpromotingengineering effectiveness. Applyevent-driven architectureprinciples to enable asynchronous workflows, interoperability, and loose coupling. Identifyand drive opportunities to apply AI and intelligent automation to product and tech workflows, decision support, and engineering productivity. Guide teams in designing AI-enabled capabilities that are reliable, observable, secure, and maintainablein accordance withcompany standards and governance processes Quality, ownership, and operational excellence Own the quality of the solutions you build through strong testing strategies, observability, and resilient system design thatdeliver onsolution obligations. Support andmaintainproduction systems, contributing to incidentresolutionand continuous improvement. Partner with platform teams toidentifyand deliver desired platform services and capabilities while adhering to best practices. Minimum Qualifications 10+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems. About You Required Qualifications Strong experience designing and deliveringcloud-native solutionsonAzure. Deep experience withGraphQLAPI design, schema evolution, and performance considerations. Hands-on experience withevent-driven architectures, including event modeling, asynchronous workflows, and messaging systems. Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous business or product problems into clear technical designs and execution plans. Proven experience deliveringAI-enabled capabilitiesand automated processesin production environments. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences. A collaborative, consultative mindset with the ability toinfluence acrossteams. Preferred Qualifications Experience working in healthcare, regulated environments, or large-scale platform ecosystems. Experience building shared platforms, internal frameworks, or reusable architectural patterns. Familiarity with workflow orchestration or service choreography patterns. Experience mentoring senior engineers and raising the overall technical bar of an organization. The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
