POSITION SUMMARYThe Compost Site Attendant is a part-time position within the Public Works Department that supervises all activity being performed within the site. Works under the supervision of the Public Works Director. This position is responsible for ensuring that all dumping at the site is done within the rules and regulations of the site including enforcing proper hours of operation and inspecting all loads to verify they are acceptable deposits. Keeping the site clean and organized.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe position will be responsible for these major duties: Enforcing proper hours of operation. Compost site is currently open Wednesdays from 1:00-5:00/7:00 pm (depending on time of year) and Saturdays from 8:00am-3:00pm.Hours of operation are subject to change. Receives vehicles and customers entering the sites and directs them to proper areas.Ensures vehicles and customers are in compliance with disposal site policies and procedures.Screens incoming waste loads for banned materials; reject unacceptable waste materials.Maintains accurate and current records of daily disposal site operations.Performs related office duties, including filing materials, sorting materials.Perform cleaning activities within attendant building. Responds to customer inquiries of basic division information within established guidelines; refers customer to appropriate person.Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures; reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor; reports all accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible; follows recognized safe work practices.Other assigned duties as required.JOB SPECIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIESEducation: High school diploma or GED.Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations: Valid PA Driver's license.Experience: Minimal experience working with a loader required.TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT Motorized vehicles and equipment, including loadersCommon hand and power toolsShovelsWrenchesMobile radioPhoneiPadKNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods, and procedures used in maintenance of a compost site.Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time. Ability to work safely.Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other departments, and the public.Ability to work in inclement weather which will result in exposure to extreme heat and cold.Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
