Position: Principal AI Research Engineer Employment Type: Full-time The role We are on the lookout for a highly experienced AI specialist to join our AI Investigation and Incubation team. This hands-on leadership position focuses on researching, prototyping, and validating cutting-edge AI technologies to catalyze innovation and real-world applications. We seek a candidate passionate about exploring new AI frontiers and transforming research into actionable systems. The ideal individual will have a strong technical background and experience at the nexus of AI research and practical implementation. Key responsibilities Research and assess emerging AI technologies with a strong emphasis on real-world applicability and implementation. Develop, fine-tune, and benchmark advanced AI/ML models. Design and build functional prototypes, proof-of-concepts, and pilot projects. Evaluate AI methodologies for aspects such as scalability, reliability, cost, security, and viability. Create and document architectural decisions regarding model deployment and integration. Publish findings and contribute to technical and scientific literature on AI research. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless transitions of proofs-of-concept and prototypes into advanced development stages or complete products. Document research findings thoroughly and present actionable insights to both technical and non-technical audiences. Mentor junior team members and foster their professional growth. Essential requirements Over 10 years of experience in AI research, ML engineering, or relevant industry experience with a minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership role. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Engineering, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred. Demonstrated experience leading substantial technical investigations or complex AI initiatives with quantifiable results. Expertise in Python and deep familiarity with deep learning frameworks (e.g., Jax, TensorFlow, PyTorch) and state-of-the-art ML techniques for model management. Hands-on experience with modern AI paradigms such as world models, foundation models, multi-modal language models, agent-based systems, and context retrieval techniques. Strong communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to a wide range of audiences, including senior leadership. Capability to relate AI advancements to practical applications in industrial or enterprise contexts. Desired skills and competencies Experience with AI governance, security, or compliance considerations. Familiarity with the deployment of ML models in cloud environments (preferably Azure; AWS acceptable). Knowledge of MLOps practices. Experience working with real-world datasets rather than strictly curated research data. Exposure to domains such as industrial, IoT, manufacturing, energy, or asset-intensive sectors. Background in both enterprise and startup environments. What success looks like Progressing AI concepts from research to validated, functional prototypes and pilots. Providing clear recommendations resulting from technical investigations. Ensuring that prototypes and pilots exhibit real-world deployment feasibility beyond mere benchmark performance. Facilitating strong collaboration among cross-functional teams to invite smooth transitions into later-stage development. Influencing AI roadmaps and technological directions with evidence-based contributions.
