Job Summary This is a full-time position that will demonstrate competency in delivery of quality patient care to patients ranging in age from children to geriatrics. The staff nurse is responsible for developing and implementing a plan of care in accordance with the patients’ express wishes and in full compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and agency policy, procedure and standards of care. The schedule for this position is 3-12 hour shifts per week 7:00pm-7:30am; 2 weekends per 6 weeks; one winter and one summer holiday per year.Responsibilities what you do Assess physical environment/safety needs of patient. Develop, coordinate, and implement a plan of care in collaboration with patients, their significant others, and members of the interdisciplinary group (IDG) that focuses on the holistic needs of patient. Provide in-patient facility nursing care according to the plan of care. Administer and document the administration of medications according to physician’s orders. Accurately account for narcotics at the beginning and end of each shift. Have a thorough understanding of the facility’s policies and procedures for emergency situations and be able to delegate and perform tasks during practice drills to demonstrate this knowledge. Collaborate with physicians, other health care providers, and IDG members and make timely reports of pertinent information to appropriate health care professionals. Complete accurate and timely documentation of nursing assessments, interventions, and updates to plan of care according to the nursing standards of this agency. Delegate tasks and supervise LPNs and Certified Nursing Assistants in the Hospice Home and document supervision according to agency policy. Provide patients and their significant others with appropriate education to support safe care of the patients in the Hospice Home and in accordance with their current plan of care. Monitor and manage the appropriate use of patients’ medical equipment and supplies. Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings. Actively participate in the orientation and training of new employees and visiting students of all disciplines. Maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Promptly communicate concerns, issues, or potential risks to your immediate supervisor or another member of the management team to support a safe and effective work environment Requirements what you need Registered Nurse with current NC license; BSN preferred. Current CPR certification. Hospice and/or skilled nursing home, hospital or healthcare facility experience preferred. Hospice Nurse Certification preferred. Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, IDG team, physicians, facility staff, leadership and others Able to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care Knowledgeable about reimbursement sources, Medicare regulations, licensing laws, and accreditation standards. Competent computer skills. Must have reliable transportation. Must be able to work on a shift basis. May be required to lift and/or carry items up to 50 pounds. Must have sensory abilities to complete physical assessment, communicate with patient/family care providers and physician and to complete the reporting and follow-up documentation responsibilities of the job. Work days and scheduled hours with weekend and holiday commitments as outlined in Employee Information Agreement.
