They replace legacy, fragmented systems with automation-driven infrastructure that allows teams to run missions with the speed and reliability of modern software environments. The organisation is small, agile, and highly technical - ideal for engineers who enjoy ownership, autonomy, and working closely with other engineering groups to support mission-critical operations. Role Overview The Senior Platform Engineer will support the internal control team by owning and maintaining the core cloud and Kubernetes infrastructure that underpins mission operations. This role is hands-on, working closely with engineering teams to ensure the platform is stable, scalable, secure, and easy to develop against. You'll take responsibility for deployments, networking, cluster health, automation pipelines, and improving the platform's reliability as the company scales. This person becomes the go-to owner for AWS and Kubernetes, supporting both internal teams and external deployments as needed. This role is hybrid, and onsite presence is required for portions of ongoing government-related work. Key Responsibilities • Own the day-to-day operation and stability of AWS and Kubernetes environments • Support the control and engineering teams by improving deployment workflows and developer experience • Build and maintain automation, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code • Troubleshoot platform issues and improve observability, performance, and reliability • Support secure and compliant deployments into cloud, on-prem, and offline environments • Contribute to platform architecture decisions as the system grows • Collaborate with small, fast-paced engineering teams on mission-critical features Required Experience • 3-4+ years of hands-on Platform / SRE experience • Strong production experience with Kubernetes (cluster operations, deployments, debugging) • Solid AWS background (networking, IAM, compute, storage, security fundamentals) • Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform preferred) • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines • Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed systems • Ability to work cross-functionally in a small engineering team • Comfortable in startup-like, fast-paced environments • US work eligibility; ability to work on government-adjacent projects Nice-to-Have Experience • Background in aerospace, robotics, defence, or similarly complex distributed systems • Experience working in small, high-impact engineering teams • Exposure to GitOps tools, multi-cluster management, or cross-cloud deployments Soft Skills • Clear communicator with ability to explain technical systems • Ownership mindset - proactive, resourceful, comfortable with ambiguity • Strong collaborator capable of supporting multiple teams • Practical engineering judgment and calm under pressure
