AMVAC, an American Vanguard Corporation is a diversified agricultural and specialty products company focusing on crop protection, turf and ornamental markets, and public health applications. We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager at our Axis, Alabama manufacturing plant. The H&S Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining and improving company programs and training for compliance with regulatory health and safety requirements, Federal OSHA, State and Local Relations, and AMVAC corporate objectives. This role is critical in fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement and driving operational excellence. The successful candidate will manage, lead, coach, and develop the team while establishing a strong safety culture throughout the plant. The Axis facility operates 24x7 to provide quality production safely and meeting production goals in compliance with regulatory requirements. Job Duties & Responsibilities: Create and manage all safety training required for plant employees and all training records Coordinate Incident Investigations and maintain all required records Manage all resources related to manpower, assets, and capabilities Ensure all Health & Safety regulations, policies and procedures are maintained and followed Monitor local and federal legislation related to health and safety and recommends policy and procedural improvement as appropriate Maintain OSHA 300 log. Responsible for audits of Safety Programs such as LOTO and Respiratory Protection Develop, deliver and maintain Employee Awareness programs Manage and oversee paramedic program and on-site employees Responsible for IH (Industrial Hygiene) program and related testing Responsible for all safety equipment inspections Manage 'Permit to Work' (PTW) program Coordinate Fire Suppression System Testing and maintain records Responsible for fire extinguisher, safety showers, fall protection, exit signs and inspections Responsible for drug testing program Coordinate Emergency Response Team Drills onsite Participate in all overhead crane lifts and reviews Responsible for confined space entry programs Review and approve the safety aspects of all Management of Change (MOCs) Coordinate Contractor Safety & Security training Oversee external audits and inspections related to Health & Safety plant-wide Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements and company policies Performs other assignments as necessary and directed by management Skills & Qualifications: 5+ years of health and safety experience in an industrial or construction environment, chemical manufacturing preferred Prior supervisory experience who works well with management Comfortable working around pesticides and other chemicals Proven leader with the ability to influence and motivate employees or groups of people while aligning work with strategic goals Ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner Good understanding of the current company objectives and committed to achieving the goals relating to this position Strong philosophy, principles and practices of Risk Management Knowledge of OSHA regulations and Federal, State and Local Relations Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) Coach managers, supervisors and field personnel who fail to follow company policies and procedures in the desired behaviors Must be prompt, dependable and have a good attendance record Work well under pressure while juggling multiple priorities following policies and procedures Excellent organizational and time management skills Must participate in the Safety monthly blood draw program Able to participate in the respiratory program (clean-shaven & able to wear a respirator) when safety needs dictate Must participate in random drug tests Must be able to pass a Department of Homeland Security approved pre-employment criminal background check and physical Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in an Occupational Health & Safety related field Certified Safety Professional (CSP) required Exceptional Benefits offered: Health insurance including Medical, Dental, Vision, (PPO) with low out-of-pocket employee costs Life Insurance Health Savings Account (HSA) / Flexible Spending Account (FSA) & AFLAC offered Employee Stock Purchasing Plan (ESPP) and 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan with employer match Additional benefits include Vacation, Sick, Holiday time off as well as an Employee Wellness program We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
