Lerch Bates is seeking a Consultant to lead and oversee rehabilitation projects from planning through execution. In this role, you will manage multiple projects, provide technical recommendations, and deliver strategic solutions to clients. The Consultant will also mentor, train, and provide technical oversight to specialists, engineers, and team members, serving as a trusted technical liaison and subject-matter expert within the field of practice. They are not intended to prescribe or restrict the assignments that management may make. Assessment Identify opportunities to enhance service and provide upsell solutions for existing clients and projects. Keep clients and stakeholders proactively informed of project status, changes, and next steps Evaluation Prepare detailed reports and presentations documenting existing conditions, defects, and recommended repairs. Conduct peer reviews of findings for direct reports and colleagues to ensure accuracy and quality Design Participate in meetings with owners, developers, architects, adjusters, and other consultants, as appropriate to project size and complexity. Coordinate with internal designers, drafters, engineers, and consultants to prepare construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents. Review drawings, details, and specifications for compliance with project intent, building science principles, and scheduling requirements. Review shop drawings and submittals to ensure adherence to performance standards and project intent. Oversight Conduct on-site quality assurance reviews to verify construction conforms to contract documents, industry standards, manufacturer requirements, and best practices. Prepare thorough site visit reports. Provide technical guidance to field technicians and specialists, reviewing reports for consistency and accuracy. Assume full managerial responsibility for project scope, schedule, design, budget, quality, staff, and execution Communication Act as a trusted advisor to clients and prospects, building and maintaining strong relationships. Maintain clear, proactive communication with clients and stakeholders regarding project progress, changes, and opportunities Performance Track projects for quality control, schedule adherence, and budget performance, addressing variances as needed. Conduct internal and client project status reviews, following standardized procedures for change orders and internal processes. Manage time, budgets, resources, and schedules effectively using departmental tools. Ensure personal utilization and the utilization of direct reports meets established goals Leadership Manage direct reports as applicable, including training, mentoring, reviewing reports, managing schedules, conducting regular 1:1s, and leading 90-day and annual performance reviews What You'll Bring: Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline: Civil, Structural, Construction, Architecture. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required A minimum of 5 years of experience in the architecture, engineering, and/or construction industry. A strong understanding of residential, commercial, or institutional building design and construction. Knowledge of building enclosure design principles. An ability to communicate complex technical information and build rapport with clients, contractors, sub-contractors, employees, and other industry stakeholders via written & verbal reports and presentations. Technical competency and an ability to effectively communicate and build rapport with clients, co-workers, and sub-contractors. Excellent skills in technical writing and communication. Flexible, responsive, and confident multi-tasking skills. An ability to work independently, handle multiple deadlines, and accommodate shifting priorities. An ability to lead and contribute to the team in a collaborative, interactive environment. A demonstrated commitment to quality, organization, meticulous attention to detail, and consistency in work product. Previous experience working for a contractor for structural, building envelope, commercial roofing, and/or waterproofing projects. Previous experience working with project accounting and budget management. Proficiency in one or more design/modeling software programs, including AutoCAD, Bluebeam®, Revit, WUFI, THERM, etc. (preferred). Why work with Lerch Bates? Physical Demands: This role requires regular sitting, talking, and hearing in meetings and by phone. Employees must navigate tight spaces, climb ladders, move around construction sites, take measurements, and travel by car, air, or rail. Duties may involve working at heights and in confined spaces, using hands for tasks like typing and operating elevator components, and applying up to 30 lbs. of force. Close visual attention is also required. Mental Demands: This position requires strong written and verbal communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Employees must interpret complex information, apply mathematical and logical reasoning, quickly learn new skills, and manage detailed, multitask workloads under shifting deadlines. Regular interaction with executives, colleagues, clients, and external stakeholders is also expected. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug test.
