They respond to the acute and rehabilitative needs of patients with disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems. Direct care is provided to individuals with abdominal stomas, wounds, fistulas, drains, pressure injuries, and incontinence disorders. As educators, consultants, researchers, and administrators, WOC nurses play a pivotal role in delivering optimal patient care. WOC nurses practice in a variety of settings including acute care, long-term care, home health, and outpatient. The unit utilizes EPIC EMR and has WOCN carts for dressing and ostomy care. Nurses in this role will not float but may address skin issues for patients in all inpatient units including ICU and Med Surge. Preferred dress code is scrubs. Limited weekend on-call availability may be required.
