Salary: $18.54 Hourly Location : Atlantic Beach, FL Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 26-02 Department: Public Works Opening Date: 03/04/2026 General Summary Performs difficult skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City buildings and the use of related equipment; does related work as required. Planning, managing and participation in building and grounds repair and maintenance. Ensures proper operation of various air conditioning units; deals with plumbing issues; electrical issues and other minor repairs. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, and performance is reviewed in progress and upon completion by observation and through results obtained. Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of City buildings. Perform minor heating and air conditioning repairs such as belts, changing filters monthly, preventing condensation lines from clogging, cleaning evaporators and condenser cells, lubricating bearings and other moving parts, replacing thermostats, electrical replacement of switches and fixtures. Manage contractors working on City A/C issues. Perform routine plumbing work in repairing valves, fixtures, old lines, sinks, toilets, etc. Manage contractors working on City plumbing issues. Resolve minor electrical issues, bulb replacements and troubleshooting electrical problems. Manage contractors working on City electrical issues. Repair doors, windows, walls, ceilings, floors, roofs, etc. on interior/exterior of buildings and structures, touchup painting when needed. Operate motor equipment related to assigned tasks including trucks and scissor lift. Perform minor welding repairs/projects. Perform safety inspections of facilities and equipment. Contact contractors, request estimates for work to be completed, scheduling and quality control performance, within the City's procurement guidelines. Contact vendors for costing of materials, ordering materials and maintaining materials needed. Operate handheld equipment to be used in projects. Maintain records of all preventive and issue-related maintenance. Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner. Operate City vehicle. Participation in hurricane preparedness activities; having materials on hand for securing facilities and supervising the execution. Ability to be on 24-hour emergency call as needed. Maintain and promote safety rules and regulations as set by City policy. Perform all other related duties as assigned or required. Education and Experience Four (4) years' experience with building maintenance functions. Licenses and / or Certifications: Valid Florida Driver's License and a satisfactory Motor Driving Record. Possession of HVAC license and Freon reclamation certificate highly desired or the ability to obtain this certification within 1 year. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of the construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings, grounds, and related facilities. Knowledge and skill of the safe operation and preventive maintenance of the equipment necessary to complete assigned tasks. Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions. Ability to lift heavy objects up to 50lbs. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public and other employees. Ability to create reports.
