Our community is a close-knit group of remarkable individuals driven by intellectual inquiry, a commitment to social justice, and a shared dedication to making a difference in the world.RequirementsJob OverviewThe Senior Physical Security Specialist provides informed and researched assessments, analysis, recommendations, and logical recommendations with respect to security countermeasures and mitigation approaches needed to protect Georgetown’s students, faculty, staff, facilities, and mission.Provides leadership within GUPD and the Office of Public Safety (OPS) and is responsible for managing, preparing, administering and directing all aspects of physical security for Georgetown University. Incumbent works under the general direction of, and reports directly to, the Chief of Police.The Senior Physical Security Specialist displays a level of current knowledge and skill expected of someone in his/her position and level of responsibility, executes the duties and responsibilities of the position, and completes written reports/correspondence/assignments/projects, in a thorough, timely, and efficient manner. The Senior Physical Security Specialist interacts with all people in a professional, courteous, and tactful manner while maintaining professional relationships with internal and external partners. The incumbent thinks logically/critically to solve problems, evaluate the relevance of information/data, make sound decisions, and anticipate the implication of decisions/actions.Work InteractionsGUPD provides a full range of law enforcement and security services in support of the academic and public service missions of Georgetown University, serving a diverse community of faculty, staff, students, and guests.The incumbent will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to support GUPD event security alongside sworn personnel. This may include collaborating with, developing, and supporting Event Action Plans (EAP) for special events and VIP visits.Requirements and Qualifications Must have 10 years of experience in planning, developing, analyzing, and evaluating facilities for security measures to meet mission requirements and improve security program operations. Previous experience in and responsibility for critical incident response and notification procedures desired. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered in lieu of the above-listed requirements. 5 years in higher education, research, or other similar environment with multiple buildings/sites/locations. Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred. Prior experience with performing assessments for military or government facilities. Certification with ASIS International or equivalent. Upper-level certification preferred (CPP) Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with no violations in the last five years and able to pass Georgetown University driver’s certification. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of security philosophies, policies, practices, procedures, trends, laws, regulations, and how they may be applied within a university environment. Must be well-versed in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design and design-based security writ large. Demonstrated expertise in employing and overseeing the use of physical access control systems, camera systems, duress alarms, burglar alarms, and other security devices. Demonstrated ability to effectively operate within a complex organization with multiple priorities and limited resources. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and take decisive action in critical situations. Must be comfortable using computers including Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Excel, and email and/or the ability to learn these applications is essential. Must possess tact, patience, a courteous demeanor and pleasant personality in order to work with students, staff, faculty, visitors, and community members. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including report writing, are essential. This position is considered essential under the University Personnel policy guidelines and therefore is subject to be on call when necessary. Must be willing to work extended, odd, or off hours to achieve the expectations of the Department. This may include rotating tours of duty (day shifts, evening shifts, overnight shifts) with fluctuating days off, according to departmental needs. Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification: Significant experience assessing open facilities for appropriate security countermeasures. Demonstrated expertise negotiating with customers and operational partners (e.g., information technology colleagues) to achieve both security and programmatic requirements.
